Jim, that's a pretty comprehensive road tool kit............. You couldn't find any room for pistons???

Jim, safe travels.
How come you didn't do the Comstock upgrade on the head exhaust threads for your brother ???LOL

Jim left out his small lap top computer to diddle his mixtures in various attitudes. One of my motto's is Never Ever Trust Boyah trigger leads, EVER!
I love the thought process to pack all those tools and camp gear on light small Commando that does sound bigger than it is.

Will all his extra power Jim could pull a trailer with shop equipment and service a bunch of cycles where ever he lands. Also better to carry a spare rear tire which goes bare about 4000 miles mostly upright touring.

Actually I have gone to an Avon VenomX on the rear and an Avon Cobra on the front. They have been good for 6500 miles. No cracks or funny wear patterns. Jim

No new pistons this time. The knock sensor is working perfectly. I turned it off for a bit to see if it was actually doing anything and ended up having to back off and downshift on the hills to keep it from pinging. With it on I can just ride with no worries. When I dropped altitude but still had 91 octane in the tank I could feel it cut back the power when I was really hammering it but once I got a tank full of 93 it really rips -with never a ping. Jim

He run out of time. Bet we find time now.
The threads were completely gone.
We slotted the nut and drove a wedge in the slot to expand the nut. We rode another 500 miles today and it stayed put. We will head out to the rally site tomorrow. Jim

Been zinging on the 600 & 700 plus miles days with hanging sword of Jim's new stuff and his brothers old stuff that played out again like a cliff hanger b/w TV series. Hope ya bailing wire on hand if the clever exht bodge blows out and need to support pipe in place rather than with luggage or to stablize muffler if removing pipe to get to safe place. Headerless Commando commands attention.

I learned All i Want To Ever Know About Hi Mileage Tires on THE Gravel in Y2K era on Commando and SV650 so hope your touring tires hold up well in all conditions. I don't want to ride SV650 out of state d/t its ride position and race tire mileage I need to commute on with half a chance.

Wonderful results with your functional knock sensor, must make this a kit that so desirable for mountain folk ya can farm it out to electronic manufacture to mass produce.

Do ya sense the nicer presence of the 'rump' rod?
Do ya expect to change oil on this epic journey or just top off?

I don't plan on doing an oil change. So far the oil level has only dropped about 1/4 inch and it still looks like new oil.

I noticed the extra link makes a good improvement when traveling through the panhandle with a 40 mph headwind.

Another thing I noticed with the knock sensor is a 50 degree drop in cylinder head temp when riding fast. There must have been some ping there I never knew about. Jim

Thanks Jim's like getting a post card " Wishing you were here". Maybe with your respected public stamp of approval the tri-linked improvement word will get out. Not that it applies to anyone else but I've run 3 hot cycles into side ways lifting-dropping ground effects, like that recent show of a racer using his body to push lost front traction cycle crash back up to carry on - who also knows to keep his knees tight to the bike, the rump rod kept Peel stable enough to unicycle around on rear patch only in complete control with extra mass on patch not to slide out so bike don't fall on me. What looks so amazing to others is just more evidence how corner crippled them so called elites are.

I've also not been believed when I've pointed out > about all well tuned engines on some decent throttle loads > operate almost constantly in mild detonation. Maybe can pull plugs at end of long days to show us their varying fuel burning evidence.

My second Oldsmoblile engine $eizure$ in a month is now fixed to pick up, so may talk my self into trusting it to Texas and back and maybe can talk Wes into thrusting enough to come with me in it to LOP. Highly recommend avoiding freeways in Arkansas for a stop in Eureka Springs then follow Hwy 21/The Pig Trail south to Jefferson, as may be the most memorable road work on the trip. Wes has to stop every 60 miles to gas up so it takes us like 8+ hours on cycles.

Hope to see you'all at the Lake O Pines. Unfortunately, I'll be on my red and white 78 Bonneville not my Commando, as it has a stripped spark plug thread. Appears at one time the hole was welded up and poorly rethreaded. Anyway, the Bonneville is my second favorite bike, so not much of a sacrifice. Looks like a cold front going through Thursday night should drop temps some and be a beautiful weekend.
