Spending too much time on this little but important issue. I've read the threads but not found the specific issue I'm asking about.

The distance between the hose barbs on my oil junction doesn't allow a garden variety 1/2" hose. I have what must be the original 1/2" ID hoses, and they are thinner wall than anything I can find, at 0.10". Is the stuff from vendors thin wall too? Maybe that's what makes them special. I don't know if people bend these pipes apart a bit, I don't feel comfy doing that given its construction.

There is little to no pressure in these hoses, so thin walled tubing is acceptable.
I am using automatic transmission oil cooler tubing ...... not sure where I got it ..... maybe McMaster-Carr.

I am not with my Atlas now, but if you PM me next week, I can give you a specification on the tubing.
 
The fat tips on those pipes are cut off on my P11. Makes using clamped 3/8" hose easy. Not suggesting you do it. However, it is an option.

Greg Marsh says he had a customer that blew one of the hoses off due to heat and cracks in the hose (not oil pressure) on a Commando. I've never had that happen, but be sure the hose you choose is rated to deal with oil temps.
 
My Atlas has 5/16" ID oil lines on the J-block and oil tank. No flared ends at the J-block.

Automatic transmission oil cooler hose is rated for 275F
 
Thanks gents. I took it a while back to a hydraulics place thinking they could crimp something on it but no dice. I'll check in with Slick next week as his tip seems promising.
 
Just to share in case anyone ever needs - Slick (thanks!) advised me on getting this hydraulic hose and it's very good quality and fits. Cost only $13 for 2' delivered. It's a little thicker at .75" OD vs .70" but there's room for a PEX clamp. He provided this vendor info:

I also found a very compact screen/magnet filter for the return line which has different hose barb sizes of 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8". It will trap the big chunks... not wanting to start a filtering debate, just FYI if someone ever needs a 1/2" one of this type. It was tough to look up but then once I found what I was looking for dimension-wise online I searched for the brand name and found it at Autozone for $25.

The feed hose has 0 pressure on it and the return hose is only a few psi. The hydraulic hose is good for 300 psi. Probably outlast your Norton. lol

The small filter looks like a good space saver. Does it have any psi flow restrictions?

Yes certainly overkill, but it was the correct size which was the main issue I was facing.
