I am re-installing the tank on the '68 commando I am restoring. When I got the bike the tank had some make-shift rubber doughnuts on the front studs. I have the 8 rubber washers that you need to install the tank, but I am unsure of how the are arranged on the front studs of the tank. Is it 3 up and 1 on the underside or 2 up and two down. I checked all my books and can't find the answer. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Thanks guys. I figured the 3 over 1 was the most logical scenario, but wanted to make sure. I have the foam installed at the other end of the tunnel.

Thanks

I have heard the donuts were 'as required' so whatever works for you is fine, but 3 up and 1 down is how mine came.

The tank should be mounted in such manner as there is no strain on the front stud pulling it downward. Otherwise the stud will evenutally pull the insert out of the fiberglass or cause a crack. Add enough rubber washers so the tank rests on the washers and the rubber pads in the tank tunnel. Then add one rubber under the front tank mount on the frame and the large fender washer. Use a new nyloc nut and just snug it down.

Thanks for the info Ron. I've known about just snugging the nuts down for a few years - please don't ask me how I know though!
