oil cooler report

Installed this little unit a couple days ago with an inline thermal bypass valve, so far the valve has only opened after a sustained highway run. The cooler is a small 4"x7" unit from a dirt bike, pressure tested, and the valve is a transmission cooler bypass valve sourced from a trucking supply shop. Kept the install neat and unobstrusive by running the lines under the tranny, and the cooler is plumbed in after the oil filter.

Just a coincidence, but a previous owner of the scruffy Combat I'm working on had one installed (without the t'stat/bypass)

Actually, the scruffy one did have one big honkin' zip-tie, and a rubber-wrapped flat clamp holding it on...

A bit more to the story: Apart from the fact that the spark plugs were left out being the probable cause of the rust seizure, the engine and original tires look to be in relatively good shape, so my belief is that the oil cooler was a previous owner's bow to typical Texas heat. A wise move.

Nice install acadian. Can you say what temperature the bypass valve is set at?

Manufacturer claims it begins to open at 180 degrees, fully open by 190

OP, not to throw rotten tomatoes, :mrgreen: and I hope the picture depicted your temporary mock up, but the vibration will cause the oil coolers aluminum flat tube edge joint to fail where they are shown contacting the frame.... and it won't take long :shock:
Did I miss something?

hmmmmm, have had one strapped to the front tubes of my t140 for years now with no issue, but I guess a rubber pad between the tube/cooler couldn't hurt
