Oil filter with oil cooler

Sorry, is not clear to me the lines of the hoses with oil filter and oil cooler.

Filter first then cooler, every time you stop the engine the dirt will settle out. So you want the cooler to stay clean by feeding it filtered oil to stop sludge forming in the narrow cooler galleries.

It is worth reading the discussion in the older post as indicated by gtiller.
I know I have almost been shot for my opinion on this forum, but after 45 years of Commando ownership I still stand my ground that an oil cooler is an unnecessary gadget on a Commando.
But in case you may to decide to fit one, bear in mind that fitting an oil cooler without thermostat will do more harm than good.

You make a good point regarding dirt, kommando. However, the purpose of the oil cooler is to lower oil temperature, and if one presents hotter oil to the oil cooler, the delta T of the oil will be greater. The delta T is the temperature difference between oil IN vs. oil OUT of the cooler. Thus, oil cooler first, then filter.

The bottom line is the resultant temperature of the oil that returns to the oil tank. If one were to measure the temp plumbing the cooler both ways, it might be found that the difference is insignificant. Without going to that much trouble, I intend to plumb in a cooler for the maximum delta T.

I don't live in one of the hotter climates. There are certainly circumstances that could push the limits of the oil, although I believe that synthetic oils are vastly different from the oil of olden days.
