I know I have almost been shot for my opinion on this forum, but after 45 years of Commando ownership I still stand my ground that an oil cooler is an unnecessary gadget on a Commando.
But in case you may to decide to fit one, bear in mind that fitting an oil cooler without thermostat will do more harm than good.
Filter first then cooler, every time you stop the engine the dirt will settle out. So you want the cooler to stay clean by feeding it filtered oil to stop sludge forming in the narrow cooler galleries.
