Oil Change Demon

A bit of naff-naff and trivia but - can anybody clarify the oil banjo union washer size? A standard M14 copper washer is 1.50 mm in thickness. The below dimension from the repair manual is 1.22 mm thick - not standard dimensions.

An error? I guess most are just using standard M14 copper washers? Or crush washers?

Thanks.

Yes, use what fits. I've ordered from different manufacturers, and it seems like each has a different thickness. I like aluminum ones because they seal better under less torque. The copper can be reused if you're into annealing. Really, aluminum washers are used for most things, so copper is really intended for higher torque settings.

Also you will find 19.9 OD as a common size

Thanks CG - good info. I’ll switch to ally next year👍.

Just Standard for me. I purchased a bag of qty 50.

On the next service I’m gonna strip the clutch and check clutch basket/ring gear security. Happy to support Colorado Norton Works and purchase their Clutch Jam Tool however, postage from the US to Aus cost more than the item.

Suprised to find another seller on EBay. Anybody purchased/used this item from GB Motorcycle Products? Quality looks OK.

You actuctally dont really need it. You can use a penny to hold it or a copper washer. either tool is fine as we have both but again a penny is all you need

I also like aluminium (UK spelling, what-what🧐) as it looks better, imo.

Received the Clutch Holding Tool from GB Motorcycle Products.

Quick delivery, very well packaged, excellent quality. Worth buying for A$77 - especially if you don’t have a penny!!🙃

Late reply I know Steve, but yes, I worked with them to identify the correct style for the 961.

Did’nt realise that Cliff - good effort! Any aftermarket firms making anything specific for the 961 is a real plus!👍

Just got to get around to using it to check the clutch basket/ring gear situation - riding around with my fingers crossed is really uncomfortable!!

So from what I gathered, don't get this one
Hadn’t seen the first one - well spotted. Quick check shows that’s the only one GB M/C products sell on their website. A revised version maybe - less parts, cheaper to manufacture.

Assuming they both work as designed why wouldn’t you opt for the first one. The CNW version is even simpler, so obviously no real need for the raised ring and handle configuration.

Get this one
I blagged the picture below that Stu posted on Facebook (I hope you don't mind Stu), and you can see why you need the two piece version. The flat single piece one won't go inside the clutch outer body of the later type cast unit.
It's actually the same as a Yamaha TDM 850 (and many other Yamaha's).

If you contact GB motorcycle products you can specify the two piece version.
