I know I am repeating myself , but instead of simply copying the inferior STD chain tensioners , you could make something like this :
Now going custom with alloy bodywork!!

Adjusting the chain with the std setup is always trial and error and takes a lot of time .
When tightening the spindle it either creeps backwards , overtightening the chain , or forwards , bending the adjuster bolts .
The tensioner in the picture positively locks the spindle fore and aft , giving extra security .
No need for overtightening the nut to keep the wheel in place .
Chain adjusting takes very little time and I never have to worry about wheel alignement .
I find that holes in 0.75 mm steps is best .

Very nice :!: (Ludwig I don't mind repeating yourself once in a while  )

I started to stitch the seat pan together. I'll see how it looks once it's done and decide then weather or not to try another shape. This one has a place for my plate and light on the back. I still need to finish shaping the front.

More progress on the seat last night. My taillight showed up today. I was going to work on it some more this morning but I was greeted by 6 chainsaws to tune up from my landlord (AKA Dad, the rent is free so I guess i'll fix them first) And tonight I finally pinned down one of my customers so I can finish his truck. So the seat will have to wait until Wed. Morning. I think I am going to need to add some skirts to the tank to finish off the gap that has been created.

As I have been looking for many years, I finally won a New Hyde fork brace on Ebay. And for about the same price as one of the shops that I contacted sells them for, if they had any. I know I don't need it on my bike, but I like the look and I think I might fab a small aluminum fender to mount to the underside of it.

I have made zero progress on the seat, work keeps getting in the way. I did start on my oil tank, I will post pictures when it is done and I know it works. It is an outside the box design that I think will work well and draw much criticism. But could be a great option for some people.

All of my electrical pieces are in the shop, so I can wire everything up when the time comes. Very simple wiring the way it should be.

The Hyde fork brace showed up, I'm excited to get it installed. Now if my dam spokes would show up I could finish the frontend.

Spokes finally showed up. Got the wheel assembled, just needs to be trued. Also got my spindle cover done.

Wheel is off being trued. I just can't get it. I don't have the patience. External fork springs arrived today. I'll make cups for them tomorrow and hopefully put the forks together for the last time. Then mount the tire after I get the wheel back and button up the frontend. I weighed my external springs versus the internal ones. The whole setup will drop 1/2 a pound off the front.

I need to get the bike into a roller so I can drag it over to the shop to do some frame welding. Possibly strip the frame completly down and have it nickle plated. I still need to find a place that will do it.

Should be quick to pull it down, I removed many of the fiddly components. just a few large chunks. Drop the swingarm, pull the iso bolts and remove the top fork tree and most stuff is gone.

Speaking of alloy boadywork, I've located a fellow by the name of Bruce Turner who advertised on eBay and has a Facebook page as well who designs and has made (in India) alloy body parts (tanks, seats, side covers, fenders, oil tanks etc.) for what seems to be very reasonable.

As for the Prices -

Alloy tank, As discussed earlier - 650 $
Alloy seat with leather or suede upholstery - 225 $
Alloy Fender - 250 $ (pair)
I can also offer the Stock Commando Side covers in Alloy for 250 $ (pair)

Some of his feedback has been very good and he guarentees them for life. Has anyone on the Forum heard of him or used any of his products? His Facebook site is located at:
http://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?i ... 3592778125 Before I do business, I want to check him out a bit. The photos on FB look pretty good. His email is: old_school_sadhu@yahoo.com

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not too sure about those, made in India still worries me.

Got the springs and cups done today. Final weigh in, one pound less. Not bad.

Don't get anymore fork range with external springs but sure should less striction.
Hope your project gets ya high like it does the rest of us Brent. Ever think about an alloy crash cage?

Not much gravel and Deer around here, so no on the crash cage.

I went with the external springs for looks with the added bonus of weight savings and loss of stiction.

Slowly checking things off the to do list. Last hurdle is to finish up the oil tank and seat. Then strip it down and finish the frame.

A whole pound is worth bragging on and evny your smooth paths where it don't matter much. I'm leaving Peels tubes scotch pad statin finish bright, like her luggage rack. Got about a foot or so of Al TIG to have done next week, I doubt it will be as nice as your beads though. Peel has 3 Al trays in semi bright, 2 that act a part of rear mud guards. Just trim items compared to your alloy UFO.

Wolfie, it pays to check that your fork brace is square, clamp it up out of the trees and see if the tubes are parallel, it will bend easily, but they are a real pain to set up if bent

Btw Brent, there is a reason Norton rear mudguards extend up above the plane of the rear loop d/t tire travel that far on a factory bike. Its and issue I've only have way dealt with on my special so far. Check seat bottoms too as factory one have a raised channel too.
