Now that the Combat is on the road, the Dunstall project is puttering along, and the aquisition of a 68 commando is in works, I thought I might dig out the Alloy project and tinker with it.

As always some time and standing back for a look changes things a little.

I have a booth at the Rockerbox MC show next saturday. I'm going to take a bunch of stuff to sell, some to display and services to offer.

After staring at the alloy bike in my shop for months, I'm throwing tires on it and taking it to display.

A happy accident happened while I was rehabbing the Kimtab Mags.

I cleaned them bare and decided to use some Aircraft Epoxy primer I had laying around.

I like the look of the color, and I think I am going to use it for the frame also. Kind of an aircraft look. Fitting as I'm an A&P by trade.

Tires showed up today. Now to finish the other rim and get them mounted.

That was gonna be my other guess. Been using Kendas on my Santa Cruz for years and they really hold up. Should look pretty cool on those rims.

I was going for what looked right for what I am doing. These fit the bill and were affordable, $120 for the pair.

Got one tire mounted this morning. I'm loving the look. can't wait to get the other one done and on the bike.

So far I'm sub #300. these wheels are #20 each.
Last weigh in with the spoked wheels and full commando rear drum brake was #295 pounds.
I should be able to get it to #275 easily. not hard to do when you don't put all the parts back on.

When one of them has a Kenda label shown on it, guessing doesn't need to come into it much !?

Used to be known as nylon/slippery in the wet, but have come a long way since then ?
Are they available in tube type in that tread pattern ?

Has anyone asked anywhere what those rims are off ?

My iPad cropped that pic so I couldn't see the logo. Thanks for chirpin in though.

They were listed as tube or tubeless.

As for the rims they are 70's Kimtab mags.

i have been away on this forum for a while but this thread really baffled me

these welds on your swinging arm are too bad to be believed .we are setting up an outfit at the moment (nsu 4cylinder drysumped and placed horizontal, alloy sumpplate cum mountings , into wich the gearbox pivots so we know a bit about alloy welding and stress )

also you are going the oif route , why? I made the same mistake on my bike and even after enlarging the tube (and baffling it ) it spitts out oil after a longer fast run (200km at 4000 -5000rpm
i can easily get 3 liter in the spine(enlarged) but now run 2 liter and still .........

if this bike is to be used please reconsidder , if for show , polish your welds so tey look reasonable (we are proud of ours so no polishing there)

ps i do not weld these myself but then do not consider myself to be an expert

this is not meant to be negative just plain boerenverstand
