I noticed that he still places full page ads in Real Classic magazine. (UK publication) Surprised, since the editor, Frank Westworth seems like a decent sort.

Real classic magazine i think are now part of Mortons Media group

Norvil place regular 1 page adds in most of thier classic motorcycle titles so will be a valued customer for Mortons

I bought some Commando piston rings about 12 years ago so I could do a rush top-end rebuild over the Easter break. They came in AN packaging and I was disappointed to find I had three cast iron rings and one chromed ring - brilliant I thought. I also bought a cylinder head rebuild kit (guides, springs, gaskets etc). The head gasket was a shite comedy facsimile, and the guides didn't fit the holes (tho' my head may have been machined in the dim and distant past). I believe I only used the valve springs from the kit and only because I tend not to use the redline so took the risk they'd be adequate. I could not be arsed to make an issue of the rubbish they sent me so unfortunately I let Norvil get away with it. I would never buy anything from them ever again.

Hemmings were my favourite supplier as Angie was lovely to deal with, shame they got out of the spares business. I now use AN or RGM, both of whom have provided excellent service.

Frank Westworth had a Norvil built Commando, he used to rave about it, I've not read his ravings about it for a while now though. Anyone know if he still has it, or had issues with it, etc?

when did this happen, only recently I dealt with them.
A month or so ago I phoned about something, admittedly for the first time in at least 12 years as the bike had been in storage that long: Angie answered, said that they don't have a shop any more, and don't really deal with people they don't know! Or words to that effect. Well, it'd been so long I could hardly blame her for saying that to me, and I did get to speak to Mick for a tiny bit of advice. So they're still there and willing to talk, but it ain't the same ... Obviously, from that, YMMV ...

FW's Commando is basically another Norvil advert.
http://www.realclassic.co.uk/norvil_nor ... o_850.html

Considering the ad. space Norvil pays for each month, if FW did have any problems then he's hardly likely to say so out loud is he, as I expect FW got the job done at a good discount.....and why not? ).

I recently dropped my subscription to Real Classic as it was sounding more and more like advertisements for their advertisers. There's been a whole bunch of articles centered around bikes that were for sale, some even written by the seller/customizer with an ad for the same bike on the next page.
They should be sending it out for free if it's just gonna be ads.

That and I can't stand FW's writing, probably ok for a club rag and if you know the people involved, but as a international mag, not so much.

I agree LAB, I wouldn't expect him to get into publicly slagging it off, which is why I wonder if anyone here knows what's happened?

Same question re the fact he had a brand new 961 that I've not read anything about for a while?

It happened last year, call it 'retirement', most of the stock went back to AN who also took over the supply of Fullauto heads to the UK and the sale of one piece cranks.

Mick is still building gearboxes and motors, and has machine tools, but seems to me he reserves a greater say in his workload. Hardly surprising after the number of years in business.

Better this than what happened to Dave Nourish's NRE business.

Retirement is what I thought, after all their years of great service it's well earned, and I sincerely hope it's long and healthy for them.

The September issue of RC arrived today in which FW says he's sold it after doing less than 700 miles on it in 7 years.

Just wasn't his type of bike apparently, he prefers the Norton rotaries.

What puzzles me is this... if you ever went to Norvil or Fairspares and look behind the long counter you could see a very well laid out and organised storage and bin system . He carries a huge range of stuff , possibly more than any other UK supplier. That takes a lot of effort and dedication. Am really saddened to read of others experiences - have always found them helpful. What grated slightly was the lack of customer parking at the Corner garage premises.

I'm with you there.

I second that. FW couldn't fit a tap washer without reverting to "Thor king of hammers" comment.

Me too. It's why I stopped my Real Classics subscription. I found his road tests of bikes almost unreadable. However, I do enjoy his one page article in in CBG each month.

To each his own, I guess.

Seems that nobody has seen the NOC latest minutes - how many more chances does he need to piss people off. Should also go and pick on someone his own size, not a club trying its best for its members.
