Sometime back around 2006 my wife stormed into the house one day and demanded that a decision be made between her and my Norton as only one could stay on our farm.

The decision was not hard.

I have no idea where she is, but I am still riding my Norton!
And I have a beautiful girlfriend who rides on the back.

Another Norton mate of mine discovered his wife had run off with his
best friend. He was devastated.

To this day he still talks about how much he misses his best friend.

Hehe my current wife likes me enough not to force a choice but I'd have to pick her over motorcycles, even Ms Peel but I try not to let on and behave well enough not to have to get trained by another one, ugh.

Me? very very happy. I love my Jenny to pieces.
Ex wife? I'm told, not so much. A very miserable woman
with no sense of humour.

The Norton lived in the bedroom, I hung my dirty underpants
off the handlebars. Ready for washing.

She really got cranky when I moved it into the bed.
Well I guess it did leak a bit of oil.

Yes, my mate got another Norton after best friend and wife took off on his.

My girlfriend Jenny is the best thing ever to happen to me.
She won't let the Norton into the bedroom,
And often not me when I have been a naughty boy.
But she would never ever want me not to have my Norton!

The horse, the solution is the horse.
I play with the bike, my wife goes on horseback, cleans, shines, "debugs".
Horse and motorcycle are complementary, so each has its own space!
Ciao.

Well Jenny will not tolerate the Norton in the bedroom.
I certainly will not tolerate a horse!!

When Jenny arrived on the scene there was dog, cat and Norton
all sleeping in the bedroom. They all disappeared one by one.
Never did see my dog and cat again.
Also, my home-brew gear in the dining room vanished!

But the Norton? he/she now lives in the carport and I have no
problem with that. I have been bent into shape. It was a terrible
struggle but I lost!!

Norton Versus Wife

My wife had no say in it as I have owned my Norton since new, so 38 year relationship with my beloved one, I have only been with the wife for 23 years so she knows her place and I bet you can guess who gets more money spent on, no my wife is cool about the Norton as she has known me since we were kids and she always known about my beloved Norton as that was my only form of transport and she knew when I rode past her place on the way home from work.

Big hands? Hmmm...

I've been all set for nearly 27 years - when we met, my wife had a H****a 400/4, so she got a share in my 900SS, I got a share in her 400/4.
She never rode the Ducati, but quite liked a '68 TR6 I had at one time - she was just scared in case she stalled it and couldn't get it going again.

I've recently suggested that I could put a Commando 'S' together with the Alton electric start for her, but she hasn't ridden a bike in nigh on 20 years now.

She didn't mind too much when I rebuilt a T150 engine on the kitchen table, but no motorcycles or major components in the bedroom. Ever.

Your laughing B+B

If she didnt so "no way" and carried on, well then that means its OK. So you have her approval in "principal" so what are you waiting for..

I've never had a girlfriend who rode a motor bike. I've never wanted one.
For some reason I have always seen a girlfriend's association with a motor bike
as being on the back of the seat. This is a terrible thing to say and I will wash my
mouth out with soap…..after I finish my wine.

My Jenny cracks me up. I have a mate with 11 British bikes in his garage none of
which are registered so can't be ridden. Jenny asks, why does Greg have all those
motor bikes in his garage that don't go?

She has lived her life in association with Nortons but never ever a Mk III. She refers
to it as a Norton with auto start!!

She is the love of my life and one day I will marry her, if she will. But not before I
get over the horrific shock from a ten year nightmare marriage!

Years ago I went to an ASHI Home Inspectors Conference in San Francisco, it was a week long trip. On an off day I rented a used Yamaha from a guy down town. It had been a few years since I had sold my last motorcycle, marriage, young son, work, etc., and after the ride I realized how much I missed it. When I got back I said to the (now) X, " I need to get another motorcycle", to which X replied, "You are NOT getting a motorcycle!" As I said, she is X, and I have 5 motorcycles.

My wife loves bikes - took her riding test on a new (at the time) Harley Low rider while all the "macho" guys were taking theirs on some puny little 250 since that was much easier. No, she's not a BIG lady…though tall… 5'11 126 pounds. She really likes the Norton re how "cool" it is. She DOESN"T like it for the "wonder if it'll make it with no problems on the next ride" status. She rides a 2012 BMW F650GS (the 850 twin) and keeps wanting me to buy a new bike to use for most rides, saving the Norton for special, light duty stuff. So far I have resisted her efforts.

But occasionally the guys we ride with announce a ride and include a "Nortons not welcome," because they believe a particular ride will be too rough for the bike. So I DO think about a new bike once in a while - probably a Triumph Tiger 800...

Way to go Mick.
It took me quite some time to realise how good it was to be free.
Now there is no stopping me!
I have a second Mk III on its way. Only difference from mine is
that it will be green, not red. You can't be seen riding the same
coloured bike each day can you?

My wife bought my Commando as a surprise Christmas present for me in 2012.
I am not complaining!

I was just beginning to like you Pete, until you told me your wife had one of those :))
I had one of the earlier ones for a while and it was a real fun town bike.

Now one would not normally use his Norton for a lot of short local trips to the shops etc. I never
used to with my previous machines. I actually own a Kawasaki 650 Verseys as well and I thought
when the Norton arrived in from America (three and half months) the Kwaka would remain town bike
and Norton sunny Sunday bike. Wrong!! Never been on the Kwaka since. It is being converted into
central heating for the house, at Jenny's command of course! And she only lives or visits here on weekends,
at the moment. Some women can make you do anything. Some women (ex wife comes to mind) can't
make you do anything at all!

But NO woman can make you do what you don't want to do with your Norton!!
Cept get it out of the bedroom maybe.
I wear the pants around here!!
Provided Jenny doesn't mind. :))

My career lead me to various acupuncture masters who told me that only thing a man should make decisions on is what type living he'll do and where they will live and what motor craft to acquire but the rest is under control of the nest maker. Good girls go to heaven but bad girls go everywhere and so do my Commandos, when able. Oh yeah one Swami told me to pick a wife that eats and has similar vices as you. Then there's the ole song lyrics, "If ya want to be happy for the rest of your life, take an ugly woman for your wife" : )
