I could use some advice on what to look out for when buying a used Norton Commando. I have owned a number of various makes in the past and have a general idea what to look out for but most makes do however have some vises and as perfect as I imagine the Norton to be is there anything I should be aware of ? (matching numbers noted). Also would the 850 be the better choice over the 750 or is there not alot between the two? Any helpful replies are appreciated. Regards Ron Western Australia

That would be quite a long list!
And to some extent, will be dependent on the actual year and model of Commando in question?

The best advice I think I could give you would be for you to read through the posts on the forum. That should give you some insight on the various things that ought to be looked out for when buying a Commando.

LAB's advice is per usual impeccable. Also, read up on various classic bike forums (other than this), check out several of the many classic bike mags that are currently available, and - perhaps most importantly - go find a current owner of the marquee (if you can, understood if none are around) and ask away. A good way to find the latter is to go to some classic bike rally's / shows. Folks there are usually very generous. Point being, inundate yourself with all the sources if you can.

Cheers--
