Dampener caps for Commando’s Made from AMCO 15
These are made on a C&C lathe in an aircraft shop to high tolerances. AMCO 15 has high wear resistance and is a step up from any material they are made with today. A pair of these will restore your stock set up giving renewed rebound oil dampening and can be used with my kits. Good for steel or aluminum dampener rods. 28.00 A pair plus shipping. Stock part# was 06-1347

New Dampener caps AMCO 15

Hi Norbsa,

"A pair of these will restore your stock set up giving renewed rebound oil dampening and can be used with my kits."
Please explain compared to my originals with 50K miles. What wears on this part that would cause a loss in damping?

Thanks,

It would be the fit of the stock Aluminum cap to the rod. This clearance is used to control the flow of oil when the system is in Dampening mode. Many years of old oil traveling through the fit opens it up. Your rods are to be .375 diameter and if they are also rusted away pitted and or abused that would further the degrade in performance.

Very nice Greg. I used 10 mm Al rods which are a bit over 3/8" dia. so was a closer fit than the stock steel rods. 0.375" inches = 9.52500 millimeters. I believe its the compression pressure from the 'valve' body that causes rod to bow and rub more clearance in the cap hole. i sanded down a few 1000th's in a tapper about 1.5 inch long on section of rod thats in the hole with sag of rider on and light road texture motions. May be why I don't feel the nuisance level of pebble piles or road ripples yet get nice dampening on further excursions. I still tend to sit on very back of seat of my stock Roadholder Trixie Combat and Race Tech emulator'd SV650 to get to pavement w/o fingers to elbow jarred to painful tingling.

The stock Raodholders tend to beat the snot out of the Al cap threads, your caps may be one of the few non factory items I would install on plain ole Trixie. Would not improve the fork action on Trixie if rod hole gap the same, so would not spoil the comparison between Trix and Peel I want for reality checks.

I have them in the store on the site now for push button buying. See the tab labeled the decent-store.

Hm, I've only felt the difference of your complete kit, springs, new caps and rods and new hydro stop holes but not the features each by itself to pick apart how each behaves alone. If I got new caps for Trixie, I'd want them undrilled or custom drilled under size for steel rods close fit then play with the sanding effects after runing some w/o sanding down. Hard part to me is figuring out where the loaded sag level puts cap on rod.
