N15 Tool box mounting

I am restoring a 1965 N15 that has been without its tool box etc. for I assume many years. I found the correct tool box for a 1965 (they can be different by year) but some idiot removed the frame mounting tabs. Can someone show me pictures of exact location and the size of these mounting tabs. You must have a 1965 to help me. Any actual dimensions would help as well. The people in the local Norton Club have 1967s which mount very differently. Thanks everyone!

There are some good photos of restorations in progress in the AJS Matchless section on this site, simply use the search function or else trawl through the titles on that page, there are not so many that it will take too long. i myself have a 1967 G15 with the points rather then the magneto, the tool box mounts to a bracket on the top part of the seat rail, another tab some way down the frame tube from the shocks to the swing arm area and the lower mounting is part of the battery bracket - it seems that this tab is often missing as I think it is prone to vibration.

I doubt that this would help, but you never know...

Mike Harrod has a 65 N15 on youtube. I've looked at the bike while at the INOA rallies. Mike sometimes post on the INOALIST. If you look up the Tennessee Norton Owners Assoc., The email address there is for Jon Harrod, his son. Both men are approachable and willing to help, from what I have seen at the rallies.

Thanks for the lead. Mike is a very nice guy and was happy to help but his N15 is a 1967. I need someone with a 1965.Also thanks to grandpaul. I have the battery holder my issue is the tool box.

The battery holder incorporates the lower mount for the toolbox by way of the downward facing tab - it may be missing from yours as they break off from vibration.

Sorry about the mix up with Mike Harrod. I could swear that the you tube video had 1965 imprinted on it.

Norton/Matchless G/N15 Hybrids

Almost daily we get asked for an illustrated parts book and workshop manual for these bikes. I have never seen one but if I ever find the time I’ll try to do one. I remember asking Gus Kuhn motors in the late 60′s for one for my AJS “33″ and they gave me a mid 60′s AJS Instruction book (as supplied with the bikes) and a Norton Atlas factory workshop manual.

The 1964/5 parts book has limited pictures, ie motor, transmission and forks. 1966-8 has no pictures so you need time and an imagination because parts are not always listed in the most logical places. For 1968-70 a few pictures crept into the early Commando parts book and then from 1971 onwards they did a beautiful job.

I've seen them with their van at a couple of swapmeets with N15s and others in it.

I have a tool box with the upper mounting tab and another without.
My early G15cs frame does not have the mounting lug on the seat rail but the '65 g15csr frame does have it.
I'll have some pictures of the 2 boxes and the battery holders as well today.
