There's a locking ring on the top of the skirts. That should keep them from rattling. Maybe yours are busted?

Hmmmm... Maybe I'm leading you down the wrong path. I was thinking about this part:

I'm sure you have that or your shocks wouldn't be functional..

The collets hold the shroud and the top of the spring all at once.

Got the front end broken down tonight:

Also wrote down what I expect to be my final order to get this build completed. That doesn't mean I think I'm done spending money forever on this bike (that would be hilariously wrong!), but I think that will get the bike finished..

Forgot to note a few things:

The center of the front disc will be painted black (on both sides). The brake caliper will be painted black in the center and the area with the Lockheed lettering will be painted black with the lettering cleaned off and polished.

Those are nice but pricey. You can get the dunstall ones for less. I think I paid less than $150 for my set of NEW ones. They show up fairly often.

Dad has Dunstall finned rocker box covers on his hardtail. They're ok, but I think the ones I bought, though crazy-expensive, look nicer. We'll see.

I flipped my stock headlight ears for these:

I think that is going to make for a very unique look. My pace on the rebuild will probably be really slow (unless dad gets the urge to work on it by himself) as I just had surgery last week.

Nevertheless, I think I have what I need to get it finished.

Jeez, I don't feel like I've been very productive on this project lately...

New chainguard arrived yesterday and we installed it today. Looks pretty decent, although we had to roll the edges a bit in order to get it to clear the chain. Not sure why it was so out of whack, but we made it work.

Also ordered a new pair of (bronze) exhaust nuts and sent my cast iron disk out for grinding and having the center painted black (haven't decided if I want to have it drilled yet):

The front end is being rebuilt, so we're getting there. Had to powdercoat the triple trees black (they were disgusting and all banged up) so between sandblasting, painting, letting them cure, painting again, letting them cure some more, and planning on painting them once MORE, we've eaten up a lot of time there. But the end result will look very nice.

I assume I'll have to use the lower-profile instrument cups from my '70 Roadster due to the Domi headlight ears, so we'll have to pull those, clean them up, and paint them as well. Again, we haven't gotten that far yet. We're inching closer, just somewhat slowly.
