tell'em 2 get over it. That's why I think there should be 2 categories- most improved, and best customization

Say cool, it's all in good fun. I will present mine, but I don't expect to win because I know most of the guys like them as close to stock as possible. I enter so it doesn't become a one horse race.

I'm not so worried about what others think because I did everything the way I wanted to. That said, I stuck with Commando parts (from early fastback to early 850) throughout so it's not TOO wild. Overall reception has been good but I by no means expect it to be one of the top finishers in this year's contest. ;)

It really is coming togeather nice & chinny!!! I don't allways like the look of those finned rocker covers but they look great on your bike and I wonder how the chrome on those bronze exhaust nuts will work out. Guess we will know soon right lad? I just got that chaingaurd & my old headlight shell back from being powdercoated in black again. The first time they came back looking like s#+*^t. I think the trainie did them & my pal who runs the place never saw them. Now they look like glass. Some time off work will be used to put them on. Oh well, your stuff looks good, enjoy.

Those finned rocker box covers were ungodly expensive. I do like them, though. They're not the standard "Dunstall" style which I think look a bit rough. They have very clean and polished edges..gorgeous!

I think I could've gone better and powdercoated a lot of things if I had been more patient and willing to wait.... But I wasn't. ;D

KSU, You have done a marvelous job on your bike, you should be justifiably proud of your accomplishments. I feel that you have blended the original with your perosnal modifications in a very practical and tasteful manner. You have given me some ideas I hope to copy.

My most sincere compliments.

Petition Jerry for it; I think it's a great idea, and I'll bet a lot of others do as well.

I'm willing to double my award donation if it happens.

You're kidding, right? Yours exhibits some of the most unconventional modifications and innovations, making it grab the mechanically-minded half of the crowd. The aesthetically-minded half don't always win the day!

It's turning out nice, but probably some of the purists won't care for it, but each to their own, plus it's your bike. Here's my finned covers, I don't know where they came from, I got them with the bike, I always thought they came that way. What do I know.

Those look like Webco/Dunstall covers to me. They're nice, but not really my kind of thing.

I got mine from a guy on eBay at the whopping cost of $250. But they have more fins and are a bit more polished. I like 'em.

Well, tonight was a bust. The transmission is leaking like a sieve so I guess I won't be up and running as soon as I had hoped. Going to have to take it apart to remove the kickstarter shaft, which I knew wasn't right from the get-go, and replace it with a stock one from a different transmission we have laying around. The shaft we installed (some piece of shit I bought from England) is too big in a lot of areas and we had to force it to work (as well as to spread the kickstarter open to fit around it). It's clearly all wrong and I'm about 100% certain that's why the transmission is leaking so much. I have to order some new gaskets because i don't have any left over.

Does anyone know how to remove the bushing from the kickstarter shaft? The one I intend to install into my transmission is a bit loose so I figured I'd buy a new bushing and have it pressed into the shaft before installing. Once I get that kickstarter shaft installed, I'm going to use my legitimate MK3 kickstarter instead of the stupid Emgo I have (CommandoSpecialties did send a replacement, so good on them, as always).

Didn't get much else done today. Washed, polished, and waxed the black and gold tank and side covers and was surprised how nice they came out. There still some significant defects (cloudiness under the clearcoat in multiple places) but the scratches mostly disappeared and they actually look fairly presentable. Go figure, since I all but threw them out. Bah.

Not much happening these days...

The transmission is out and apart, awaiting a new kickstart shaft which I ordered (from Walridge) today. Once it gets here, I can put the transmission back together while hoping like hell the thing doesn't leak. This time around, I'm also going to use my MK3 kickstarter instead of the crap-ass Emgo replacement I got for my bent one. Maybe I can talk someone into giving me a few bucks for that lovely (new) Emgo part.

The new Interstate seat arrived and I like it a lot better than the stock '72 seat. It doesn't curve up in the back..much sleeker look IMO. Still haven't gotten my custom-upholstered seat fixed as my bike hasn't moved off the property yet. That will be on the list as soon as it's running.

-Jordan

If you like a sleeker seat, look at the 69/70 one. But then I'm prejudiced.

Shouldn't fit. The recesses are different. Not that it couldn't be modified.

Those '69/'70 seats are weird! :p

"Maybe that's why I like them. Plus a bong sits on them just right" DogT you just made me laugh out loud. Cj

Different interstate seat fitted (trying to sell the '72 seat now):

You'll notice the transmission is apart...again. Waiting for a new kickstart shaft to arrive from Canada. Hopefully soon.... :/

The repainted (midnight purple) tank and side covers should be back before long as well. The black/gold setup works alright for mockup photos. ;)

Hopefully I get this done while there's still decent-ish weather so I can go get my custom seat fixed. That thing is just...awful.
