Hmmm, that's surprising, it doesn't take much of a piece of real metal to make a kick starter lever unless it's junk. At least I know now, you should get your money back though if you whine enough. Where did you buy it? Side benefit of the 'S' is the kick-start lever is no where near the exhaust. I've heard all the horror stories about new silencers, not that I don't like the look of them.

Another CommandoSpecialties part.. :\

I'm sure they'll either send me a new one or give me a refund..Or something. I have yet to not be given a new part from CommandoSpecialties when something goes wrong, so hopefully that trend continues. Not that I really want to run another Emgo starter at this point, but..yeah..

We also noticed that the red light on the headlight bucket stayed on when the bike was idling but went off when we gave it throttle.

Thoughts? Not sure what to check, but I'm guessing this means the battery isn't getting enough of a charge from the alternator... :/

Alternators typically ' turn off the light ' at 11 to 12 hundred r.p.m.s . :wink: Even Lucas ones . :p :D
 
If its off at 1500 its chargeing , typically 1200 .If its gone at 1200 its No Problem .Unless you never pull over 12 . 8)

Rally gars gear them so they dont boil the battery with all the revs . :shock:

I'll have to check the next time I'm able to actually start my bike.. :\ I wasn't watching the tach when it was running.

You might need to bend the kick starter to fit, what was the distance between the kick starter and the top Z plate bolt ?.

This problem is not uncommon, bend the kick starter and swap over the silencers from left to right, the scratch should be well enough hidden.

No, the gap between the kickstarter and top bolt / muffler was just fine. The kickstarter 'let go' when we were kicking it through. We heard a loud pop and the kickstarter was WAY out of whack after that. We can see some serious stress on the arm with it off now. Not sure how there are no fractures in the chrome with that kind of damage on the arm, but it's mangled.

It wasn't cheap, but I'm satisfied with the results. I definitely think the 750 exhaust nuts look nicer than the 850 exhaust nuts. Much better castings, IMO.

Holy crap, it has a front fender! Also, newly-chromed bronze 750 exhaust nuts are installed.

The tank and side covers would have arrived tonight except I wasn't home.. so...I'll pick them up from the post office tomorrow. Registration tomorrow, tank/kickstarter install tomorrow, and it should be off and running!

I am! My first rebuild and I've survived it thanks to my dad. I think the bike really came together well. I can't wait to see it with the tank and side covers installed!

The only knock is that the starting point didn't "look" that bad. That said, it was a huge, dangerous piece of crap, especially for the $4k it cost. I guess it goes back to the "most improved" vs. "best end result" argument. I think it's pretty cool and kind of out there. But Some may hate it because we went off the deep end with it in some areas. :D
 
tell'em 2 get over it. That's why I think there should be 2 categories- most improved, and best customization
