MK111 Starter removal

I removed the starter off my MK111 ,It's a one kicker,with a Mikuni, and Boyer ignition. My question, is there a blank plate available to cover the hole where the starter was. Right now I covered it with aluminium muffler tape.

It's not a perfect fit, but you can adapt a triumph points cover with a bit og drinding and drilling, plus a bit of silicone seal, 2 screws and nylock nuts.
 
If it's the origional starter you can use the plastic end cap to blank off the primary.
 
Clubman Racing sells a nice alloy cover. Another option is to unscrew the cover from your starter. Epoxy a nickle in the center hole and reattach it using the original screws. I spray painted mine black. Rode my MK 3 like that for more than 20 years and it only cost a nickle.

The inner end plate can be removed from the starter and used,-if the armature hole is blanked off.

(The outer end cap is normally alloy, I've not seen a plastic type?)
 
Oh, I meant if he already had the plate he could just blank it off and put the plastic endcap off the starter. Mine just had a homemade gasket epoxied over the plate then the plastic cap screwed in.

Sorry pelican, but I still don't know what part you are referring to as the plastic end cap?

Thanks for the photo, and it looks to be the same shape as my own starter's cover, but that isn't made of plastic!

Does anyone else have a starter with a plastic end cap?
 
Use the other end of the starter and plug the hole with a nickle. You can reuse the original o-ring. No leaks and not as bulky.

How is the starter removed? I removed the two philips screws but the thing would'nt budge am I missing something?

Remove the primary cover screw that is directly below the rearmost screw from the starter. (There are three screws holding the starter).
 
Just curious, why did you decide to remove the starter? That seems to me to be one of the major reasons to have a MKIII in the first place. Since I'm interested in an E-start, I'm VERY interested in knowing why you didn't care for it.

Cheers thought there was only two. My starter removal is for inspection as its not engaging.
 
For inspection only - right. Sorry, I guess by the discussion of blanking plates and the fact that the bike is a one-kick starter I ASSumed that you had decided to permanently remove it. ;)

Then don't stop at the starter because your problem is no doubt with the sprag clutch or anti-backfire device and you will need to remove the primary cover, alternator stator, rotor, and stator mount. Hopefully your sprag is not toast. It's currently a $200 item.

Now if someone knows a jobber who will cut a deal on price, the part is REGP4127 (3C) from Renold, BWX1310145 (3C) from Ringspann, or DC4127 (3C) from Stieber. Maybe we could work out a group purchase? I have been unsuccessful so far.

Anyway, you often have problems with it engaging properly and several vendors recommend replacing the primary sprocket and drive gear with the spag.

MexicoMike - Is it becoming clear why many guys want to just remove the starter? :lol:
 
I made my own out of a piece of alloy skid plate tapped with three 1/4x20 holes and them mounted the horn to it by drilling a hole in the center. That way, the bulge doesn't look so lonely.

I have a spare MK3 innercase which is reshaped (removed the bulge and then flatwelded) to the leaner looks of the pre MK3 chaincase. It is for sale, if you are interested just let me know :idea:
