The MK 111 primary tensioners wear out , I'm on my 8 th set now.
Has anyone replaced the phenolic pads on them home style ? Bodies always good.

Amazing! what has been the mileage between tensioner changes? I run a iwis duplex primary in my Mk3 and have clocked up 20,000 plus miles with it with no bother. What oil are you using in the primary? Phenolic pads? i thought they are a hard rubber. Have the tensioner springs been changed to something stronger? that will wear out the pad very quickly. The springs don't do the tensioning. They just hold the pad in contact with the chain.

a lot of threads on these things....
don't think they are made of phenolic
if yours are grooved, they only groove down to the chain rollers, then the wear decreases ,because the rollers help support them,

8 SETS?!?!

Yikes...

...unless the bike has several hundred thousand miles. THAT might help explain it...

When I say 8 th set of the 2 , 7 were from the previous owner's box of spares that came with the bike's previous history and many other bits and pieces , some (braided fuel lines , filters etc.) were new in that box. I opened the primary on purchase to find black oil from pad wear. Mileage at 26,000 (Miles) on clock at purchase time. I fitted 2 new tensioners at that time of cleaning out that black oil from the clutch. 10,000 miles later the triplex is rattling. Likely I will be opening up the primary shortly to clean again and fit the new upgrade parts I have ready to install.

They are:
New gaskets and seals.
21 T. sprocket.
Iwis duplex primary chain.
CNW hardened clutch center.
CNW hardened front sprocket with better 14 roller sprag kit.
New chain tensioners.
New 20-50 W. oil. (Lucas).

My question to you concerns the Iwis Duplex. Obviously you fit it inboard on the engine -side 2 sprocket teeths. Any other tips before I dive in on this winter project ?
Thanks.
