I also own a Moto Guzzi. The user group in the US is rather strange. It is very political and it seems most of the owners are a little (actually tea party right wing) to the right politically.

I have a theory, which may be completely off base, that most Norton Commando owners are a little to the left politically. I know this probably has no place here but it is a curiosity with me. While I am not a far lefty, I was not too enamored with the Vietnam war, although I had to go for a tour. (having taken an ROTC scholarship for college). I have a feeling, which may be completely off base, that most Norton owners are not right-wing types.

Are most of us at least centrist, if not anti-war? Just asking.

This thread should probably go somewhere else in the forum. However.

From my avatar, you can probably see that I was a dope smoking commie pinko in the 70's. Probably still am, but without the dope (figured that one out pretty quick). Don't have any problems with any others with their proclivities as long as they don't with mine. I really don't think it matters, we all like the fact you can go from 25 to 70 in second gear. Nuff said.

Realists with a strong sense of delusion.

Religion or politics- good way to loose friends.

Re: Let's not be poltical but I have a question and a theory

I'm politically pessimistic.

But we can all like Norton Commandos regardless! :)

While you may be right (as in correct) I myself was a long haired hippie kid & I mean kid as in I got sent home from school at age 7 (1967) because my hair was down to my waist but as I grew up and went from ridding on the back of my older sisters Husbands chopped Triumph to wanting my own bikes I ran into some hard core right wing guys when trying to buy my first 3 Nortons. I think it's a matter of perception really.

Let's not be poltical but I have a question and a theory.

Yep, I can shift on the left or the right.

Re: Let's not be poltical but I have a question and a theory

I can only shift on the right.

The shifter on my café Commando is on the left

I was a hair greaser, polyester slack, penny loafer, slide rule belt wearing, red white and blue dyed to the bone right wing raised, shocked by the loose moral example of Easy Rider. Then I got a Norton Cheetah 45 Ranger P!! that was paired down open header two yr champion dragster. This attracted long hair hippies to bad ass 1%'ers into my sphere along with SDS bombing of school with riots and clouds of smoke and living in sin with high school sweetheart. Got run through the draft raffle twice but they stopped just short of my number. This eventually lead to successful suicide attempt by over dosing on various types of LSD over a whole weekend. This caused me to balance signing up as fighter pilot using less lead for slower young, old and infirm or join an ashram and become a mad monk. Ok my car broke down on a trip with a friend and I was stranded earning my keep by becoming inner circle gopher for a pair of Swamis, who showed my how to get high w/o drugs. I came close to becoming a Burt Monroe as only time I was thoughtless happy was having my brain smashed into back of skull by the G's. P!! got stolen so I was able to become a primary care physician outside main stream established system. Took 25 yr tasting various cycles but no satisfaction to take one home, till fully dropped out of the system and moved to Ozarks to spend the last of my money w/o a place to work yet on a Combat found instead of a ridding mower I went out looking for. I had to cut my over shoulder length blond hair for college application and fool everyone since all trimmed up clean.

Motto's on Tee shirts.
"Better Living Through Chemistry"
"Everything you know is Wrong"
"How Much Can I Get Away With and Still Go to Heaven"

So excessive Norton combustion and psychedelics saved me and I ain't ever coming down.

Oh Chist Montelatici you just had to ask didn't you. And I will allways have to read Hobot's ramblings! Or my own for that matter!!!

Err, what is your definition of successful?????

Re: Let's not be poltical but I have a question and a theory

Hobot's successful suicide managed to successfully kill all the grammar cells in his brain, leaving him with the soul of a poet... that was pretty fun to read, Ho :-)

In the real world who benefits from the seemingly endless wars paid for by taxpayers? Anyone who can answer that truthfully is not likely to support any political group, and will see that whatever any of the groups might call themselves, that they are comprised largely of liars, cheats, and conmen, whose main motivation is financial gain!

Re: Let's not be poltical but I have a question and a theory

There's a saying, 'Madams and Old Buildings all gain respectability over time'. I think it applies to Commandos, but not to Commando owners. :D Instead of politics, I think a better corollary might be the kind of women we marry, or is it the kind of women who marry us?

Re: Let's not be poltical but I have a question and a theory

"or is it the kind of women who marry us?"

Those with questionable taste in men... ;)
