I have a question??

I recently purchased a barn find Norton with out a title. I beleive it to be a 1973. The engine # is 309773. Can anyone help me to identify what I have?

A 1973 850 Norton.

A 1973 850 Norton.

Although probably built in late 1973, '309773' would make it a Mk.2 (or Mk.2A) 850 model which may have been originally titled as a '74 model.

Will you share some images of your newly aquired bike? That will help identify and bring lots of GOOD, USEFULL info raining down on you :mrgreen: and the comments above are true inasmuch as the Commando has been built in different variations which the VIN is useless to identify. Roadster, Interstate, High Rider, Fastback over the years. Many bikes were modified, built from other bikes, parts replaced after failures, etc., etc.
Give us the images of the engine number, the trans. number, the frame has numbers stamped DIRECTLY into the headstock tube, AND the aluminum VIN tag riveted on right beside that.
Fill out your profile, it'll help knowing where on the planet you are. Some places are easier to get titles than others. Painless here in the "Live Free or Die" state.

Different states have different requirements, but there are some companies that will help someone get a title, I haven't used one but have heard about them. Their fee varies with the particular state you're trying to get it titled in.

Thank you so much for the help! yes here is a link of the only picture I have currently. What what i am learning it is a 1974 850 Commando Interstate.I will take more pictures the first of the week and post them. Someone had started pulling the top end off and stopped. I went ahead and pulled the top end tonight. I looks as if it has a piston scuffed up fairly well. Cylinders look very good. I will do a complete teardown and rebuild and restoration on it.Thank you once again for the help much appreciated

The previous picture posted in the bed of your truck shows it's an Interstate model, bigger fuel tank and wider seat than the Roadster. And, you're sporting Yamaha XS1 turn signal there.
