Tony,If Norton is claiming a gentleman’s conveyance , then why the chain rear drive? They should have gone the extra mile and offered a belt drive. For goodness sake , that would have been a nice upgrade !
So considering the Old New Norton community helped them to iron out the problems for the New New Norton 961 you could feel a little bit bitter when they won't tell you which parts have been improved and could be fitted to your bike to iron out the faults you told them about.& I donated my broken linkage as physical evidence to the quality/design team , along with pictures of my broken balance shaft, clutch springs, decat pipe, & battery box.
That’s a positive way of looking at it Clive. So considering the Old New Norton community helped them to iron out the problems for the New New Norton 961 you could feel a little bit bitter when they won't tell you which parts have been improved and could be fitted to your bike to iron out the faults you told them about.
Agreed FE and I hope that when ‘push comes to shove’ at the time of purchase, when a Donnington Norton (see what I did there) owner requests a part/assembly and asks the direct question “will this fit“, that information will be forthcoming. We certainly have enough info to know when to ask the question. I think time will tell, especially when the likes of Stu B, Ollie T and CG (eventually) get hold of them, all changes will become apparent. That’s a positive way of looking at it Clive.
But I do wonder if that positivity will remain when someone has dropped £500+ on a new clutch only to find it doesn’t fit. Especially if they’re in US or Oz and have waited 6 months and paid loads in shipping and import fees.
I guarantee there’ll be posts about ‘I bought xxx and it doesn’t fit and Norton won’t refund me…’ etc.
If Norton know which parts they’ve changed, then they should know which of those changes will / will not cross over.
Exactly, so no reason for them to be evasive about the matter. If Norton know which parts they’ve changed, then they should know which of those changes will / will not cross over.
Once again I sent them a private message on Instagram and once again crickets. They read the text but refuse to answer.Exactly, so no reason for them to be evasive about the matter.
The information may not be forthcoming in what we see as an acceptable time frame, but I think we will eventually hear which parts fit Donnington 961s. If there are such 961 parts, Norton stand to make additional money servicing the needs of legacy 961 owners.Once again I sent them a private message on Instagram and once again crickets. Why do I feel like I’m watching Ferris Bueller.

What would be great is if Norton would offer a crate engine so to speak . Even if it is just stock performnce level. This would be a good way to get all of the powerplant improvements with one swap. I know it won't be cheap but much less than a whole bike ? They said something about 7deg of cylinder cant , but looks the same to me . Anybody read/hear that also ?The information may not be forthcoming in what we see as an acceptable time frame, but I think we will eventually hear which parts fit Donnington 961s. Stay tuned.
I did see that 7 Degree in the text, but couldn't make sense of it. 7 degree additional cant? What would be great is if Norton would offer a crate engine so to speak . Yeah I saw what you did there...very subtle.... you spelt Donington incorrectly to match the spelling mistake on the back of the service booksAgreed FE and I hope that when ‘push comes to shove’ at the time of purchase, when a Donnington Norton (see what I did there) owner requests a part/assembly and asks the direct question “will this fit“, that information will be forthcoming. How about if you buy the engine as a "display" for your living room.I have already enquired about a complete replacement engine but as the bikes are currently only approved for the UK, they told me they cannot provide one
Sounds the same as trying to get any parts.I have already enquired about a complete replacement engine but as the bikes are currently only approved for the UK, they told me they cannot provide one
Get someone in the UK to enquire than. How about if you buy the engine as a "display" for your living room.
But afterwards, when you receive it, you decide to put it into the frame.
I am in the UK and was told they hadn't planned to sell complete engine/box units. So not a no but vibe I'm getting is they won't.I have already enquired about a complete replacement engine but as the bikes are currently only approved for the UK, they told me they cannot provide one
Crowdfund a bike purchase, strip it, examine the parts to see what fits then sell it.We should start a thread similar to the alternate parts list thread of the known changes, new OEM/suppliers etc and update it as we find more about the bikes.
@Stephen_Spencer is actually going to become the Australian Dealer - he has a test planned where he actually cleans the bike until it fails……Crowdfund a bike purchase, strip it, examine the parts to see what fits then sell it.
