Which LED were you using out of interest ?

No MOT needed for over 40's, unfocused mess is good in daylight as its the idiots to the side that need to see you.

Last MOT I had an LED in sold as a Philips, tester said it was the best LED he had ever seen and also passed the full beam tests on his equipment. He was expecting the normal wayward beam. With the beam being so good I had to add an LED as the pilot bulb to get the unfocused mess back for daylight.

@Fast Eddie, At the time Mr Goff had sold out of his LEDs, so I bought an 'OPL5' from an Amazon supplier. It is longer than a halogen, and only just fitted in the Scrambler light unit. I dont think the light source was in the correct position for the reflector, hence the unfocussed spread of light (maybe this is the reason the MoT will fail them? )

The LED is bright, one car driver challenged me while I was behind him in stationary traffic - he thought I was on main beam, which I wasn't.

@kommando, apparently the new regs. are from now, Jan 2021, so you may want a halogen lamp and screwdriver handy for your next test.

The Scrambler is 2006, so it will be a while before it is MoT exempt.

I have Cibie Z beam headlight units in my 'classic' bikes, with H4 Halogen lamps. They work a treat.

No next test, all my bikes are 40 years or older so no MOT, the one that covered the LED was in 2018 and my last bike MOT. The tester would be fine with bulb swapping close by, he allows it for silencers as long as you do it outside and out of sight.

LED rules have been clarified. For bikes LED bulbs now allowed as long as they meet the normal MOT reqs.
