So I replaced my JPN's timing cover with a MKIII cover, complete with oil pump feed bush, new style conical washer, spring, and plunger. And I primed the pump and feed line as per the MKIII manual. But now I see the same instructions from the pre-MKIII manual for pumping "a teacup" of oil into the rocker oil feed port. How can that work with the anti-wet sump valve? It didn't. When the syringe built up enough pressure, it blew it's hose off the line I was using, and a high pressure squirt of 20W50 shot up on the ceiling, then began dripping all over the floor. I thought maybe the feed port was clogged, but it pumps oil up to the rockers just fine as I kick the engine over. Is this procedure just something that should have been deleted from the MKIII manual, or is something haywire here?

A "teacup" of oil would be enough to fill the timing gallery and the crankshaft, the timing cover gallery itself takes very little oil, and your crankshaft gallery may not have been completely empty?

I've never had any problems priming my MkIII's timing cover at the rocker port using a small pressure oil can with a flexible tapered spout and a piece of rubber sheet with a hole in it to act as a gasket between the spout and the hole.

CONICAL WASHER Thats is only for Pre-Mk3, the MK 3 has a FLAT rubber washer

Well, he did say new style conical washer, and Norvil refer to the MkIII type seal as a "conical seal", after all, it isn't completely flat. so hopefully, it is the correct one.

Yes, I have the large, flat (almost) washer for the MKIII and the new oil pump feed bush to match. It looks like the plunger in the anti-sump valve closes off the pathway between the rocker feed and the crankshaft oiling hole unless the pump is supplying pressure. But what do I know? As I said though, the oil pump does open the valve and pump oil to the rockers when I turn the motor over with the kick lever. So I guess it must also be feeding the crankshaft. Is that a reasonable assumption?

I had an issue where the bush would not sit flat against the pump. A little filing across the face of the pump allowed it to sit flush to the pump.

Well, since I can't get a definitive answer to this, and because the rocker feed is oiling properly, I've decided not to worry about it. I'll just check for oil circulation in the oil tank after first start. Thanks all who responded.
