anybody running koso tach or speedo? my sending unit is shot and i'd like to eliminate the cables on both tach and speedo. the koso looks good for the price. autometer is nice too especially the phantom but pretty pricy. be nice to know by how much i'm breaking the law. thanks, rick

jeandr is running one on his cafe racer (1-2 pages back ) ... I think I'm making the investment too. My speedo and tach didn't survive the rebuild : I blocked off the tach drive and will probably go digital IF they make sending units for the drum style front wheels.

I've just finished fitting an Acewell to my Roadster. I ended up changing the electrics to negative earth, but apart from that it was not too difficult.

For the speed pick up I cut and drilled a piece of aluminum angle, bolted the pickup transducer to it and fixed it in place via the mudguard bolts.
I epoxied a "fridge" magnet to the wheel rim and bob's your uncle.

The sending unit is only a pickup and from then on it's where you place the magnets(s), as easy as putting a bicycle speedometer on a pushy.

thanx for the replies. now i've a decision; try to maintain a semblance of tradition w/ 2 round gauges or go jean and geoff's route w/ functionality over tradition. this bike, a '72 non commando was supposed to be something for me to cut my teeth on, sell this winter and put the proceeds toward my 2a project which i have mostly yet to touch. i'm so taken w/ the cafe racer style ala jean i just may go that way w/ the '72. i'm at the stage in my life where i regret selling some truly classic equipment when i was younger to finance other projects. only regret is i didn't get into motorcycles until now at 62.

Geoffrey's gauge gives a nice "airy" and modern look to the front end, worth considering if looking different is a goal.

Cash

Will it not be to take up the space left by the removal of the instrument cup holders?

The spacers replace the instrument cups, cheaper than replacement nuts from CNW.
The basic functions (speed and revs) of the ACEWELL will work with positive earth, but not the switched functions, because the switches on the standard Norton (ignition, winkers, dip/main, etc) are in the negative line. The ACEWELL doesn't have a separate negative per function, some share a common negative, if you get my meaning?
I have a Rita ignition (two wires to swap) and a Boyer Power Box (again two wires to swap), took me an hour to change the polarity.
The readout is very clear large numbers and good contrast, I'm very pleased with the arrangement. Also allows better clutch cable routing.
