Hi Gents
Squatting down alongside the bike looking directly at the kick start input shaft.... as there is no master spline what is the correct angle that the kick start should be positioned onto the splines....
or isn't there one??

As far clockwise as you can without it fouling the footrest on return.. That way you'll have maximum travel when kicking (MK3 owner)

Or... back far enough that the lever doesn't dig into your calf. Personal preference.

I questioned the same thing. as I recall, most original photos show the bottom edge flange and the foot rubber in a near horizonal position. does that mean it has to be that way - NO

Kick Start position

I have mine set that way, and don't seem to have any problems.

from the photo it looks like the kick start pedal runs almost parallel with the horizontal top edge of the Z plate

I find it easier to rotate it ccw a little bit so it starts to kick about the 9 oclock position. This gives me maximum leverage when I need it.
