Chaps,

I searched this but got a tad confused by the differing findings.

Does anyone know the closest paint codes, available in UK, to the original white, with red and blue stripe, JPN paint job applied to some of the late mk111 roadsters?

This is what I have

White Ford Diamond white

Red Leyland Flame Red

Blue Rootes Ming Blue

Thanks!

Any pictures?

And do you happen to know the paint codes?

And how did you tackle the issue of the angle of the stripes? As I understand, it is not as simple as making parallel to the bottom of the tank. I'm thinking the best way would be to mask up with the tinware fitted to the bike...

The stripes and lettering etc have part numbers, and can be purchased.
And appear in the original parts supplements for the JPN Replica. (?)

BTW. Does this mean that the decaled ones are the genuine article, and painted ones are 3rd party ?

I am assuming Fast Eddie is talking about the Roadster JPN scheme not the JPN racer replica, the Roadster tank was painted and did not use decals except for the Gold Norton.

The angle is best done with the tank on the bike so its level, if you reference it to the lines/seams on the tank it will look droopy.

There are some good threads on here with lots of pics, just have to pick out the original tanks from the repaints.

PM me with your email and I can send some pics of a rusty original.

Thanks Gents,

Trouble now is... That thread has got me thinking about pearlescent. I had a GSXR in pearlescent years ago and it looked stunning in the sunlight....!

Yes I did.
And replied for the Replicas...

So were the RWB Roadsters ever called JPN anywhere ?
They are "blue stripe" in the parts books ?

Interesting question. I have mentioned on here before, Norman White told me that at the factory at the time, it was known as the 'Jubilee' paint scheme. But I have no other corroborating evidence for his statement.

Well, the Queen's Silver Jubilee wasn't until 1977...

Today some stores set up for Christmas in September in the hope of maximising sales... Perhaps NVT were trying the same with the Jubilee ?!?

Hi Eddie,

I did one with the paint codes above, but I found the blue looked a shade or two too light, so 'some adjustments' were made.

I also ran off some stencils to mask the stripes which worked well.

I don't have a decent photo of the tank to hand at the moment, but the stripe doesn't run parallel to the bottom of the tank - SwooshDave posted some great photos of his tank a while ago which were very useful, and some bloke called Lawson had a new one a while ago which was also a good reference. Bloke rode Japanese bikes to some effect, apparently.

As for the pearlescent white, it isn't an overly tricky finish to achieve, but the pearlcoat gets expensive if it's for just one bike. Used straight from the tin it looks way over the top, and needs to be sprayed 'in suspension' in lacquer to achieve the look they got on Gixxers, ZXRs etc.
