Hi all,

Finally managed to sort out all three colors, (it has been a long journey) in regards to the white I managed to have it matched from the tank on my T160 (75 the same year).. Red was quite easy but I have to admit my painter and I found it quite a mission settling on a decent solid blue.. The job was finished late last week and so I thought for those that may have been following my JPN paint plight on this forum I would post a few pics to show the end result .. Thanks to all for the advise given..

Cheers
Paul :D

My first Norton was a MK2a with that scheme in 1980. I sure miss it some times.

It's beautiful, NZ, something to be proud of.

I sincerely hope you masked the pattern for the horizontal lines WITH THE PARTS MOUNTED TO THE BIKE!!!

What happens is, they often don't exactly follow the horizontal lines on the parts themselves.

although I'm going with BRG on my '75, this has always been a favorite paint scheme of mine---can't really go wrong with red, white & blue

Awesome!

Please tell us what the red and blue paint colours were that you finally arrived at...

Thanks for all your kind comments and to fast eddie, I have asked my painter to see if he can work out what codes he used for the red and blue..
I will get back to you when I hear from him hopefully next week.. grand Pual you do have me a little worried and it will be sometime before I mount the tank as I still have es issues to sort ..

Cheers

I always liked the black & gold as the color for Nortons best, but given that roughly 100% of the few Nortons I see (including mine) on my travels are black, I must
say the JPS colors, especially as represented on your tank and side covers look absolutely stunning!
Hmm, let's see, it's 1975, in the showroom I'm looking at two new Nortons, one black/gold, the other JPS and both gleaming like jewelry. Which to choose, which to choose. :?:

I was only mentioning that because (I believe it was on this forum), there was another beautiful looking JPN paint job on the parts that were posted, then when on the bike the owner was disappointed that they weren't exactly parallel/true with the bike on it's wheels.

I hope yours is!

If I understand correctly, the factory put the lines one the tank in a slightly downwards slope (sloping down to the rear). But I must confess that to my eyes, the fact that the lines are not parrellel with the bottom run of the tank can look as bad / worse than the fact they are not parrellel to the ground! Afterall, the bottom of the tank is very close to the line, so very obvious to the eye when out of line. It is not so obvious to the eye whether or not the stripes are parrellel to the ground as it is so far away.
However, it does seem very important (to me at least) that the stripes on the side panels are in line with those on the tank.
So it seems to be something of a 'juggling act' and finding the right 'compromise'.
I will be having this paintwork and nearly went for it recently, but as the bike is currently stripped, I have decided to postpone until next winter. This will allow me to play around with masking tape on the assembled bike, stand back 20 paces with one eye closed, and take pictures, and so on.
HOPEFULLY this will give my painter adequate instructions to get it 'right'.
Given the stunning quality of this chaps paintwork, I really hope it looks right when assembled.

I got a banged up original tank , I could post a photo of it for a stripe location reference?

What?!?

no, no, no Jimbo, A photo isn't what we want... how about 25 - 30 photos from every concevable angle?

Seriously!

Another thing is earlier left sidecovers where the main top edge IS NOT AT ALL in line with the rest of the bike OR the level ground.

I'm about 80% sure the paintwork is original, I could sell it for $125 plus shipping, if anyone wants it. theres a dent on the other side and I noticed a hole.

Have you got a photo of the sidepanels?
