Hello All,
I just emailed a bearing supplier in Australia about NJ306 E and he returned back this bearing code NJ306E.TVP2.C3 FAG is this the correct main bearing?

NJ306E.TVP2.C3 (by FAG)

NJ - Single row roller, 1 flange inner
306 - medium duty
E - High capacity
TVP2 - Polyamide cage
C3 - loose clearance

These are all correct specs except for the polyamide cage. While this may work, I prefer the brass cage bearing, NJ306E.M1.C3 (or sometimes NJ306E.M.C3). Also NJ306E.JP1.C3 (NJ306E.J.C3 in SKF) is the steel cage variety.

The recommended bearing is the brass cage type as Ron L says.

There has been some discussion amongst Commando owners and at least one article written in the past about the suitability of the polyamide cage bearing, as it has been said that polyamide does not stand up too well to the combustion contaminants generally found in the engine oil over a long period.

If I could add a little information here, 'NJ306' would normally refer to a standard or medium duty (FAG) bearing (the 'E.' requirement being important) however the '306' itself is the bearing size code, in this instance: 306 = 30 x 72 x 19 mm.

LAB,

My bearing x-reference actually has 2XX as light duty, 3XX as medium duty, and 4XX as heavy duty indicating that the XX's are size indicators.

O6 does indeed relate to 30X72X19, but I don't know how.

Then I possibly stand corrected regarding the first of the three numbers?

But an NJ '206' appears to be a different size bearing = 30 x 62 x 16mm to an NJ306 = 30 x 72 x 19mm, so the duty rating would seem to be related to the bearing size?

It would seem that way, but I am not a bearing engineer. I only know what I have found and read. :(

Thank you very much gentleman.
I know I'm sure I will need you help again. If I didn't have this forum I would certainly be on my own.
This is what the bearing dealer has come up with NJ306E.M1.C3 FAG $53.42
which is roughly 22 (don't have the pound symbol on my keyboard) GBP. Which saves me a bit of cash as the pound is really strong against our dollar.

Is the correct bearing a C3 fit? I don't recall having a C3 when I changed the bearings .

PS my aussie keyboard gives me a £ when I press option and 3

NJ306E.M1.C3 sounds the right type and £22 would be a good price in the UK for a genuine FAG bearing, as the Norvil price is £38.50 each+tax (VAT @17.5%) = £45.24.
