My interstate tank failed a few years ago thanks to the ethanol they decided to put in petrol (Gas) to save the world.
So I replaced it with a roadster steel tank, as at the time steel interstate tanks were silly prices.
I would like to go back to a interstate for the extra range.
Came across this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORTON-COMMAN ... Swr81UN5qW
Seems too be a bit cheap to be a quality item. Has any one tried one ?

well I bought the same tank and matching sidecovers from them some time ago , but as yet havent got around to painting and fitting them.
But I must say its the best made tank I've ever seen come out of India. I was very impressed with the quality. I really dont think its gonna have to many issues, I'd buy another tank from them again, but probably not from any other Indian supplier

I bought a set of Interstate side covers from this vendor, and am happy with them. I have not painted nor fitted them yet, as I got them for my original Interstate tank that I have had for years but is not currently on the bike. The quality is almost but not quite as good as the replacement Andover Norton made roadster steel sidecovers I have seen at my local AN vendor.

See this thread for more on these tanks from the vendor you were asking about above steel-interstate-tank-t24275.html

I also purchased that tank and it appears to be very well made. I still need to pressure test it but at the moment I would not hesitate on recommending it. I liked it enough to buy a set of side covers also. I am still waiting on them.

Are there baffles in the tank, I have the large version original (i think) interstate tank on my bike, it would be nice not to have gas sloshing around.

I bought the same tank. It seems pretty good to me. It has a red primer coating inside the tank. I sent the vendor a message as to what I was suposed to do about that. Do I strip it off? Do I coat over it? Do I do nothing? The person responded to me that I should strip it off...... so I made a coctail of paint stripper and acetone, added 30 nuts for abrasion, and swirled it around inside the tank. It barely touched the paint, so I gave up trying to strip it.

I washed the tank out with gasoline and nothing came out but the noxious chemicals I put in it, so I am leaving the interior of the tank as is. I mount clear gas filters in my fuel lines and cut the filters off my petcocks so I can see if there's any crap flowing toward my carbs or if there's any blockage. It's my opinion that the vendor's instructions to strip off the interior coating was a mistake due to language translation. I think the person responding to me may not really understand english all that well because she also said that the outside of the tank is chrome plated which I also wonder about...

anyway the tank seems well made, and I'm currently painting it and my old sidecovers too, so this tank won't be mounted til next spring, I don't think there are any baffles in the tank.

and heres lies the problem with any thing coming out of India, until there is a consensus of who is the person in India that will produce quality components , all we do is go back and forth about the quality of parts coming out of India. India is a big place, lets point to the good quality stuff by the person invoilved.

I also bought one from the same seller when he offered them on Ebay US. At the time I felt it was a huge gamble but the price was so low I rolled the dice.
Very impressive quality, especially for the money. What really impressed me was the stamped bottom instead of a bunch of welded flat pieces.
Haven't mounted or painted mine yet either but it looks great.

just so there's no confusion, I got my tank from the ebay store of: "rsvintageparts2014"

Whether the tank is made in house by that person's employees or subcontracted out to a different manufacturer, I don't know. I thought the tank was "OK" with the exception of not understanding why it was lined with red primer paint... Other than that, I paid $154. for the tank including shipping to the seattle area. So long as it doesn't leak, I can make it nicer than my beat up old roadster tank is presently, so it was a good deal for me.
