Hi All,

Has anyone got figures (i.e. decibels) or experience re: pea-shooters silencers vs Instertate ones (06.3130 as per AN Catalog)?

I currently have RGM pea shooters. Nice sound / superb look / engine running freely but neighbourhood not sharing my view.

A friend told me that Interstate ones have a softer / less aggressive tone.

Thks.

Do you have separate downpipes?
I have found a balance pipe takes the edge off with pea shooters fitted
Although I have pretty bad tinnitus so I'm not the best judge

I have S model pipes peashooters on my 750 Combat, my buddy has interstates on his 850 MKII. The interstate mufflers are way quieter with a nice tone. He runs a single Mikuni and it runs very well. Both sets are made by Tim Wassell, who I believe make the ones Andover sells.

Thks mates!
Quick / Accurate and helpful feedback.

BAZ: I have separate pipes but ready to switch to balanced ones when needed.

Interbak: Are your buddy's silencers the ones with a black cap at the end? To me, they wouldn't look great on my bike (Commando engine in Featherbed frame).
The 06.3130 I'm referring to were used in 1972 only (as far as I know) on 750 Commandos.

The current EMGO peashooters are much louder than the originals. I don't know who makes the RGM peashooters. AN sells three different peashooters. You should write to technical@andover-norton.co.uk and ask about the relative loudness or maybe @Madnorton will tell us here.

To change to interstate mufflers requires new pipes, and brackets so not a simple switch.

No, not black caps. He has the original straight back Interstate pipes and mufflers, items 22 and 23 in this parts book page.

I have a complete Interstate set up I’d let go. Original pipes, good shape. Mufflers may be original, not sure about them but great condition. Brackets were replated.

I echo Greg's comment about how different peashooters vary in loudness. Probably true for other styles as well. Hard to make general comparisons unless you control for all variables. Particularly when you install peashooters that have no identification marks or known pedigree.

Silencers with no sound deadening material would be around 104 - 112 dB, silenced they are about 94-96 dB. It does nto seem much on paper but many owners say they are more quiet. With noise cameras now in operation in the UK it made sense to tone them down a little.

Is there a consensus on the quitest
Pea Shooters.
Yes, I’m getting old…..

The quietist peashooters I have used were Campbells, no longer made. They had the central tube with pressed in flutes pointed towards the engine that scooped the air and fed it into the outer chamber. AN may do a version, email them to find out but Feked did do a version with the flutes but they look to have dropped them. The noisy ones have the central tube but just with pierced holes so not much gets directed into the outer chamber.
