There is a diesel Matchless single built by a member of the AJSMOC. Don't know current status but it was featured in the Jampot magazine years ago.

Anyone ever heard of any British motorcycle built for, or converted to diesel?

Myself, I like the look the of the coils exposed. Polished...Even nicer.
I would choose accordingly.

Many options there. Never an agreement on the best.
Just need magneto guy to chime in and they'll all be covered.

Someone must prefer a magneto.

Well my Joe Hunt maggie is one of the best ignition set up I have ever run on my Norton, starts first kick every time, idles great and runs great from slow revs to full throttle, very little maintenance, I have over 40,000 miles on it without touching it so far still running the same plugs since putting it on, plugs still look as good as the day they were put in, and the best thing no need for a battery, mine runs straight off the cam and sticks out in the nice cool air.
But of course I get people saying it look ugly sticking out the side but I think its beautyfull, as well people say its got no advance, well it don't need it as the quicker it spins the bigger the spark and it fires up with only a half swing on the kicker.
I ran a Joe Hunt maggie on my old 81 Triumph Thunderbird for 9 years and just on 250,000 ks on it without any problems at all with it but the newer JHs are 4 rare earth magnets.
I have had my share of problems with E ignitions over the years as well as the orginal points set up and batteries going flat etc, but the JHs have never let me down.
I have owned my Norton for over 43 years now and will never go back to any other ingnition systems, my JH is that good and I only run the bare minimum of wiring on my whole bike 2 main power wires and 2 wires for brake and tail light and 1 earth wire, I run all my power through a battery elimator straight off the Alt. but I don't do much night riding on my Norton these days, I have my Thruxton for that.
