Help Identifying a Cam

Ok, as usual, I stand corrected.

Hepolite is a brand not a company. Since the 60s I've known them as piston makers and always thought the Hepolite was the name of the company.

I suppose a great many companies and brands are in name only.

Standard or 2S billet at £219.95, you seriously aren't going to significantly better that for price. They aren't listed as chilled cast.

I have no expereince of quality for these, but either Wassel or Hepolite have had a quality name in the past. You are going to spend more in your search.

A used cam is worth about $25 as a cam core if the journals are good. If you go to webcam they will need a core. Megacycle makes theirs new and both Webcam and Megacycle are hardwelded. I only deal with hard welded cams or Plasma Nitrided cams from UK. The Plasma Nitrided cams are more expensive so you don't see many of them out there. The plasma nitrided cams are available with modern asymmetrical profiles and are ground by computer. Webcam and Megacycle each have one modern profile for Nortons that I know about and all their Norton cams are ground by a master plate copy.

There was a person in the Pacific Northwest (Johnson cams) who made a few grinds but I don’t know if he is in the fray.

There should be an abundance of NOS OEM stuff and custom out there but buyer beware.

The NT360 in my middle pix above is a johnson cam

As a Wassell dealer I have full access to all the Hepolite cams (chilled iron and billet) and at better prices.

So are you saying that at your discounted price the motor build you are considering isn't worth that investment?

You are going to put as much in in gaskets and sealants!

Not sure how this tread devolved - I simply hoped that someone would be able to identify the cam I have. To answer your points:

1) I've yet to find anyone who has used a Hepolite cam. I'm still investigating - it may be that the cams from AN come from the same manufacturer as the Hepolite cams -- supposedly, they are both made in the UK.
2) 2 gaskets, a couple of seals, and sealant cost less than $20 - the cam costs a LOT more than that. Like I said in the original post, this is only a bottom end. I do have a complete gasket/seal set so I might use that and provide the left-overs with the bottom end when I sell it if I don't use it for a repair.
3) New Superblend bearings, cam bushings, big-end bushings, a new cam, crank stud/nut kit, conrod nuts, and the cost of the bottom end I bought all add up to a point where I might have trouble selling it. That's the hesitation. I supposedly have a bike coming with a blown bottom end to repair. If the cam is OK, I don't need to buy a cam. However, having a bottom end sitting around unassembled is a PITA so I might got for it just to resolve that.

It's the stuff we don't know that makes us ask......who knows, that blown bottom end might have a useful cam in it? Good Luck.
