With respect to reed breather valves employed on Norton engines, myriad types and varieties have been designed and employed over the years. My Commando is presently fit with the COMNOZ/NYC Norton breather valve fit to the bottom of the crankcase. I am presently working on a 1930’s vintage bike and intend to alter the breathing system with a reed valve mechanism. I have had my breather apart and seen the 2-petal reed breather present in said valve. However, I don’t care to disassemble the valve at this juncture to inspect the reed valve to see the size and type it is. Would anybody happen to know the brand, part#, and/or application of this reed valve? Something makes me think it is a BMW or Mercedes product, but have no recollection why I would think that, or where the info came from. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

XS 650 yamaha.

Effective, cheap & easy to get, easy to mount.
I'm after just that specific metal reed mechanism, i.e., the petals and mounting block, not the housing. I intend to mount the reed block internally in the engine.

It is a generic reed block most like more similar to that from a 4 stroke scooter.
I think you will find it is also not as stock but machined to fit the unit Jim makes.

This is one I machined for my 1973 Moto Guzzi but is also an oil separator that returns any oil back to the sump via the stock feed pipe that goes below the oil level so no return pulsing.
The factory/stock tin box unit with flapper disc is notorious for ejecting oil.

Like the JC one I machined the reed plate to rectangular with the radiused corners which spigot into the alloy body.
If you just want to use a reed it could be left as stock with the four bolt holes (which were machined off)

When I bought the reed unit for this one I got a total of four (might have been off UK eBay.
I will do some form of (reed valve) breather for both the Sunbeam S7 Deluxe and TR4A when time allows.

Its a real tragedy JC does not post here anymore but can't blame him.

A little out of order to post these pictures but it is a common part and looks to be machined so common but not off the shelf.
The ports are around 19 mm x 11 mm.

Edit - This is the (modified) reed valve in the Comstock breather.
