The bolt hexagons are (or ought to be) 3/16 BSW (or 1/4 BSF) spanner/wrench size?

Yes, head size for 3/16BSW = 1/4BSF. The tools I have, however, have shortened this nomenclature to 3/16W and 1/4BS.

Its a shame that Whitworth was phased out in favor of SAE. Whitworth thread pitch is designed to carry a heavier load than the equivalent SAE.

Yes, BSW/BSF tools are normally marked "W" and/or "BS".

One bright side,you might find it quite hard to actually buy crap quality whitworth spanners,due to the rareity now days they are not normally floged by crap tool merchants.

I won't be taking the 1/4w spanner back, thats for sure. It does fit some of the head bolts as well a few other things. I was just a bit shocked by the price. Actually I am a little shocked by the quality too. It is awesome. Not like the crap they sell at Bunnings for $4.95.

It has the thinnest ring of any spanner I have seen. Even thinner than the ground ones I saw at Cycle Craft. If it wasn't for the cost, I would love a full set of them.

Oh yeah, the socket was KOKEN. I think my memory is failing with age. :lol:
