Alton chain case oil leak

Hi all, on initial Alton install i was curious as to why the cover only required one dowel when the original had two??... but anyway fitted a new "O" ring lightly lubricated it and offered the cover up, it aligns with the single dowel well enough but the cover isn't sitting and running parallel with the Alton chain case (sitting down at the rear) yes there is a small degree of wiggle room around the centre stud/ securing nut, but even with an amount of "upward pressure" the cover still not sitting parallel when tightened...
I have now completed around 300miles since install and i have an ominous oil leak from the joint.....
Anway dropped the cover off, checked all the faces for contamination, places the cover on a surface plate with engineers blue, all good
Installed new "O" ring ( again) and rebuilt without the dowel, and the cover aligns much better... I'm OK with this but not sure if it could alter the timing marks by a small degree
Has anyone else had a similar cover alignment issue?
I do plan to talk with Alton next week

I have same cover. With single dowel on bottom edge nearer to front, I can move rear aboutless than half a centimeter up and down at the rear end of chaincase.
I usually allign outer with inner so the rear part of the cover is aligned with the rear inner primary chaincase

Same here, plus the Alton O-ring seal was very soft, I got a better seal by refitting an original one.

Yes, it was the "O" ring supplied with the kit that leaked. i have now fitted one from AN and without the single dowel

Disappointingly I've have had no response from Alton on the issue of the misaligned cover/oil leaking or why only one dowel is used.
Anyway the cover continued to leak so i removed the single dowel & realigned the cover without it.... low and behold i have no oil leak!!!
If any one else is having a leaking chain case that cannot be cured, bare in mind this simple fix, that for me at least has worked a treat.
I seriously hope i don't have any warranty issues with the Alton as i fear I'll be left in the lurch.
Their customer relations sucks!!!

That's weird
I've always had quick response from Alton
It's not a French holiday or something is it! 😁😁😁😁

I have the Alton and the same setup with the single dowel. I can't comment on the dowel, this one lines up with no issues. This seal has been reused for at least 5 years and might drip once a day, sometimes twice, sometimes none. It gets very soft and stretchy. The first time I reinstalled it after after a service, I trimmed off the excess at the top at the splice, therefore shortening it. Now I bunch it up as pushing it in and adjusting for length at the top splice where it doesn't really matter. Not sure if it pertains to your case but I don't trim this one anymore

I have had good response from Paul at Alton all along but I understand he is ill at the moment that may explain it

I couldn't get the Alton supplied o-ring to stay put, and after a couple of frustrating attempts, went to a (new) AN rubber o-ring along with a smear of Hylosil 300 clear.

No weeps or drips on my (single dowel) fitting.

Oh Dear,
That is so sad. I corresponded with him and he was delightful and gave great support for the Alton
