So what are my options for gauges? I want both the speedo and tach. Everything I've heard about the speedo drive is not good. I didn't get a speedo drive with my bike and the tach "was not working, probably the tach drive at the motor" (said by PO). I would have to replace the glass and bezel on my stock gauges as they are both in very poor condition, but thats not a big deal to me. Do electronic gauges exist that don't require negative ground?

Just looking for some opinions, suggestions, info, etc. I've been putting this off for too long.
Oh yeah, '74 850.

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben

Try Lowbrow Customs they sell a after market Taco and Speedo that look like Smiths gauges and they only cost about $70 each, they run them on their own bikes and have said they work very good...

www.lowbrowcustoms.com

they are a mail order campany dealing in parts, I have had many dealings with them and are very quick service, I have brought my Joe Hunt maggie, oil tank, mufflers and a few other things, they have fast delivery to Australia and I am very happy to recommend them...

I installed an Acewell unit on my bike. It looks awesome, packed with features, and was $200. Search my posts for pictures and info.

There is someone out there selling electronic replica Norton speedos and tachs. I think they were about 150 GBP each.
I saw them the other day, but now I can't find the website!

I would (and have) went with what Dennis sells at "northerneagle.ca" You may have to use Triumph type mounts (if you want access to the trip meter knob) but they are a GREAT PRICE and still look British ... only Triumph style !!!

My next bike I'm getting one of these... weighs nothing, easy to see

I got an Acewell 2853. SHipped for $200. It does everything in a nice small unit. I powered it up and played around with it. I like it, I might have to order another one for my yamaha. Their tech support was fast and informative. I had a few questions before I made my decision, and they were very helpfull. Just my 2¢ worth.

And these Acewell units will work with positive ground? I'm no electrician but it says it needs 12V DC which doesn't seem to be a problem be it positive or negative ground right? The only reason I ask is because I think CNW has gauges that will not work with positive ground? I will definitely get one of these Acewell units if its as easy as it sounds.

Thanks a bunch guys, you may have just made my day.

How so? Excuse my ignorance, but I need a hot wire and a ground wire, what difference does it make if the bike is positive or negative ground? I guess I just need someone to explain to me, in stupid people terms, how I can make an Acewell unit work with positive ground.

Sorry for the runaround guys, I really appreciate all your help.
Ben

red wire to ground, black wire to - on battery. , or wire it all directly at the battery. Their schematic simplifies the explination. I'll try to scan it and post it.

bwolfie- no need to scan and post. I understand. Looks like I'm getting an Acewell then.

Thanks so much for your help.
