Cam bushings problem, options please

All but two of the Norton motors I've had apart, the cam bushings oil holes were not aligned with the case holes. Were they not installed at the factory right, or did they rotate ... who knows. Anyway, I usually just drill though them, no big deal. Now the brain fart. Though they were already lined up with this motor, I decided to "peen" the bushings ... so there would be no way they could turn; big freakin' mistake !!! This has caused both bronze bushings to now be out of round, can't even get the camshaft in. :evil: How can I fix this ??? Can I have them just reamed, or do I have to have new ones installed ??? Any and all advice is much appreciated.

You could just grind away the "bump" carefully until the cam fits if you don't want to bite the bullet and get them either reamed to size or replaced.

You can also hand scrape them with a three-cornered machinists scraper. You have a little better control than with a grinder, and it doesn't really take much longer. All you do is carefully scrape until the cam journal fits easily. I've done it, and the cam bushings scrape quite smoothly, so you can get a very nice finish.

Ink the inside of bush to reveal where to relieve via reamer and cam test fit. While ya in there, might consider oil groove too.
