hi there, I've got a 74 fitted with a long-range tank and no tail section.
I'm looking at my options for seats as the one on it has a homemade cover and just doesn't look the part, also I'm not sure what condition the foam is in but its quite soft so I'm not sure if recovering is an option.

The seat is held on with the two alloy knobs and not a hinge.

does anybody know what seat will fit without modification? i don't want a massive gap between the seat and tank.

any help appreciated

A long range fastback seat from Leighton in England will fit. This is the same as standard FB minus the "wings" that go around that fuel tank. The fiberglass tail piece is the same for FB and longrange FB. To be original you will need the seat, tail piece, correct FB rear fender (shorter than others) and the license plate that connects between the tail light and lower part of the fender (English type).

Not exactly what you want but I use an Interstate seat with the ears moved back 1 width or so to bring the seat forward so it fits.

Leightons will sell you new covers and foam so you can refurbish the current seat.

sorry i should have been clearer.
I'm pretty much looking to find out if a roadster or interstate seat will go on without modification and without looking very out of place.

Kommando: do you have a long-range tank fitted? how much of a job is it to move the tabs?

I have an Interpol tank fitted, I find the Interstate tank puts me back too far and without rearsets my hips seize and the Roadster tank is too small for Rural Scotland and distance between petrol stations. The Interpol tank is a LR tank with radio cutout on top and can be found cheap.

I removed the cover and foam from the Interstate seat to get to the base and then cut the tabs off by grinding the welds and using a chisel once they were moving and nearly free to cut what was left, put the base on the bike with the tank and positioned the base to suit and marked the new tab position and then just drilled for 5/16" bolts and used stainless and nyloc nuts. Then off to the powdercoaters and when back recovered the seat on a warm day after leaving it all in the sun to get really warm. The tabs ended up sitting just behind the old position.

Plus if you find an Interpol seat then you have room for a large container behind you but the end of the MK2A tool try is then exposed
