Gaskets

Hi all
Researching gaskets & would appreciate your feedback... been looking at the silicone/fiberglass reinforced gaskets from JS motorsport..... good investment or a waste of money???

I use thick silicone gaskets on the rocker box's with no reinforcement, never had any leaks before but now do not have to replace them as I did before with normal gaskets. They are from before JS did theirs but if I wanted to replacements then I would go the JS route as the ones I have do suffer from being too soft and you have to be careful and not overtighten or they spread out too much.

As kommando said, I have had issues with silicon rocker gaskets squeezing out. Never had a problem with normal ones, a little hylomar will help if worried.

I am using rocker gaskets from JS and they are performing well.
They are better than standard paper and the soft silcone type which spread and break in my experience.

I think they are great for timing cover and rocker covers, everywhere where you might open the cover from time to time and want to reuse the gasket.

I used them in my gear box. I didnt like the soft silicon gasket for between main cover and inner cover, it got squeezed out. And the layshaft end float was too tight in the end because the gasket was compressed too much. I replaced it with the original gasket.

Some of the stock paper gaskets I have gotten recently must be old stock, but newly-made gaskets from MAP Cycle seem much more substantial. From here on out, they are my go-to gasket supplier.

The stock paper gaskets sourced from Old Britts have worked well for me. A thin smear of Hylomar on areas that don't need to be accessed and a thin layer of bearing grease when I know that I'll be needing to have a frequent look see. Valve covers get the grease treatment and I've never had an issue with the oil getting out. Maybe I should try grease to help keep the smoke in on my few remaining Lucas components

Conventional gaskets smeared with Loctite 518, seal perfectly, peal off like sticky notes. Tighten up as originally designed.
