Danno,
I've been blending my own 98 octane for a while with excellent results. My local dirt track racetrack (IMCA car racing) has a Sunoco 110 leaded pump. I mix the 110 with ethanol free 87 octane from a trusted local station. A 50/50 blend is approximately 98 octane and runs very well in my old bikes. The Velocette used to ping like crazy with the ignition timing advanced, not anymore!
Being located in Illinois, I'm sure you have IMCA racers in the area. Find out where they buy their race fuel. It's more expensive than buying pump gas, it works out to about $4.50/gallon for my homemade blend, but it's worth every penny (and burning race fuel smells sooo good).
