Follow the Golden Path and you can't go wrong....

Yup... my rims are pretty nasty these days. I actually dread searching out someone to replace them correctly. Japs have nice looking mags. I wonder.....

I'm kidding, just fit 100/90/19's front and rear as 10's of thousands of folk have done with no problems.
If you do a search on the subject you will be knee deep in BS before the first page is read so best avoided.
I went to wider alloy rims but @ $1200 the return on investment is debatable but most folk only do it for looks anyway.
Oh phew...I knew I read that mine were fine for Avon’s. You had me worried...

Hi Steve - looks good - you must be excited !
Forgive me if I am repeating myself-can’t remember which thread the subject of tires came up . I know you are anxious to see rubber on it and I can’t blame you but if you have another couple years on your project the tires will be considerably into their age life by the time you are done . And yes, I realize they are indoors and out of the UV light but why rush ? Lots of other things to spend your time and money on.
You might want to triangulate the strut you put in for the gearbox cradle with another to the bottom rear engine mount .
Keep at it !

I am sure some will disagree but keep up the good work.
You have done more in the past week than I have done in months.

Thanks Rick!!

I agree on both!

Thanks TW,

I’m on a mission. I love this part of the build. Finding parts and meeting people. It’s pretty cool.

I’m excited to start looking at the engine!

Now that I have considerable time and money invested in this project, I’m kicking myself for not having the frame blasted and painted.

It wasn’t in terrible shape and I touched up anywhere there was a flaw. But it’s far from perfect and I’m wondering if I should take everything apart and have the frame painted?

I’m reluctant to do so because it looks pretty good and not much of the frame ends up showing anyway.

As this is a budget build, I find it hard to spend all that money on the frame when I need so many parts for the engine and trans.

I think I’m going to leave it as is, I hope that it doesn’t eat at me...

Is your aim to have a show bike? If so, take it apart and do it now. If you just want a cool bike to ride, leave it how it is.

If you think its going to eat at you, do it.
You've still got a long way to go and a lot of money to spend. Dropping the cash on this is going to feel like a distant memory soon enough.....

That’s what I was thinking. It’s nowhere near a show bike. It’s going to be a fun rider.

So it’s Sunday and I have nothing to do while I wait for more parts to arrive.

Chances are, I’m not going to paint this yellow; maybe a silver tank and red fairing, fender and seat pan?

Not sure yet, but it’s fun to play around.

Take a look and let me know what you think. The seat pan and fender are coming tomorrow. Maybe I’ll get some red and paint them and see how it looks.

I think this could be an original Gus Kuhn tank although there is probably no way to tell. When I was sanding it, there is blue metal flake paint under the yellow.

I might even keep the front chrome fender. Not sure, it’s really nice looking.

The paint is leftover nickel from the air filter and fork yokes.

;)I think you made a wise call the first time on your frame. Then not my bike or project either.... You're going to rapidly be approaching a point where second guessing yourself may cause palm hair or worse.

Haha, yes. I second guess myself all the time.

Nice Photos, thanks for posting, I'm enjoying your thread and would also agree with you on sticking with the chrome front fender and stays as I always liked that style, just kind of a throw back look for me I guess. seems to my eye to be the best looking front end, regardless if the rest of the bike is fitted out as the original "fastback" or Roadster, Interstate, Hi-Rider etc... again thanks for posting , Cj

Some parts came today.

I have a PR front fender, rear seat and a steel oil tank side panel that’s in perfect shape.

They all need work, but I’m pumped.

Here they are just sitting on the bike. I’ll make sure everything is mounted properly this weekend. Still debating whether to use the fiberglass or steel fender. I keep going back and forth.

I’ll take the seat off the pan and have it made new...eventually...
