For the naysayers K&N air filter

always good to read up on things but for me, actual engine builders, riders or drivers experience doing normal motoring over many miles in all conditions counts for more than any lab test.
As mentioned by another poster here, there may be other factors such as vibration or heat, not repeatable in a lab test that could influence results.
K&N for me everytime, but if someone likes the paper filter, go for it.

It's deeper front-to-back than I wd wish, and a pain to pull, but it does mount at an angle to become level even though the carbs tilt forward.
Hose to the oil tank? Mine just vents downward to atmosphere.
And yes, if the rubber is too hard and cd not flex, it wd be terrible. But even then, removing the carbs is almost "last-ditch" resort for me

Does that fit without modifying the air cleaner back plate? And is it the filter recommended by CNW for the electric start kit?

I have no air cleaner back plate at all, Dave, and no idea what CNW recommends, sorry.
The entire stock air filter was removed.

Where have you been for the last 40+ years. K&N part NO-0100 filter fits inside the Commando ham can housing, same size as the stock paper filter. I’m not familiar with what kitting means, so maybe I misunderstand.

OLd thread....and one which I'd "seen the light" on page two if you happened to read through to it. This was from my first months owning a classic bike, so had a lot to learn (still do :) ) .

Paper filter use and discard at service intervals, that I remember the first big deal with K&N was clean, oil and Reuse indefinitely (hence cotton) ?
 
The K&N is just a little bit wider than the stock paper one like 1/8"-3/16". This makes it more of a pain to get in there. I had one for a while but returned to paper.

Im finding the kn fits well in the ham can and its more flexible than paper so easier to R&r. I leave the grill off as the filter has a wire mesh already.
 
Just looked at the UK cost of the KN ham can element....gasp....I won't live long enough for it to pay for itself.
I'll stick with the stock paper filter...

Andover price for a paper filter is equivalent to $26. I see K&N NO-0100 online for $59. My K&N has been on my ‘72 since 1998, just clean it every once in a while.
 
It comes down to what is available and what will fit. A lot of Nortons have adapted to non stock carbs and there are limited choices when it comes to aircleaners that fit. Show me a Wix or Purolator aircleaner I can use.

Are you sure you are looking t just the k&n element and not the special cut down filter and special hamcan slim kit from RGM?
 
Yes the price for the unit two hole type is almost identical with the ham can element type but then Im on the other side of the salty divide than you.
