Fireflake red restoration

I have the project torn down to bare frame now. I’m finding very little wear such as the swing arm spindle still had lots of oil inside and no galling or free play. Since the cylinders are still on standard bore with not much ware I think the whole machine has very low miles. The previous owner said it had not been registered since 1976. I think I got lucky with this one.

Having a hard time with DMV. Fifty states and wouldn’t you know a ‘61 Willys with my ‘69’s same serial number is already in the California system. They’re sending me to the CHP to decide what number to use on the title.

Success! Yesterday was my birthday and it went well. Went to California Highway Patrol per DMV to get the ‘69 Commando 750 S serial number verified in a task to generate a new title. CHP blessed it and this morning DMV completed the paper work. I now have a license plate, registration and the title will come in the mail in 4 weeks.
Time to strip it down to the frame and start the rebuild.
