Yup! Without Greers efforts we would’nt have the 961 and Garner would’nt have had a starting point for the rebirth of Norton @ Donington.

What Garner did after that is a different matter, but no doubting that he changed the course of Norton’s history by bringing the marque back to the UK where it belongs.

Without what Garner established in the UK (based mainly off the back of the 961) I doubt TVS would have seen the same value in purchasing Norton and given it the opportunity it now has for success🤞.

So, that all goes to prove that the 961 is the most important model in Nortons storied history! I’m sure that the vintage boys will agree!;)

Also goes without saying that it’s the sexiest! Definitive proof shown below.

As long as you are comfortable with the bar setup and have done the standard maintenance fixes you can certainly tour on these machines. In style of course!👍

Never seen another 961 in my area, but a biking mate spotted this one a few days ago at a local bikers spot. Clearly he was the only rider who thought it was appropriate to park under that banner! 🙃

Just did an oil change on mine recently and cleaned it out ! Don't think anyone else had bothered - it's at 4000 miles now.
I had some big-ish pieces of black paint - 2-3mm- that was it - so i guess that was from the frame paint.
Easy enough to do - went back together ok and doesn't leak.
Think it's worth having it on to filter out crap like that.
I just unscrewed the lower half from the banjo connection to the oil pump up and twisted it all back together before bolting on the bottom half to the oil pump !
No need to take the actual clamps off or anything.

This has been discussed before. That inline filter should be removed since it slows the flow of oil to the oil pump, especially on start-up, and the 2mm ball B.S. it needs to pass through. But if you leave it, it should be changed/checked regularly, as even after numerous oil changes and heating, many still find debris in it. Also, a good time to check your hoses for kinking from heat and poor routing.
