I had vibration through the throttle side of my bars from new on my 2015 CR (little through the pegs). This disappeared at around 4-5K from memory.

Interesting FB post from Ren, about weighting the foot pegs. Apparently it addresses the vibration issue, through the pegs at least and the lifting peg palava.

Easy and effective mod it appears. May be of use to some.

And for those without the machining ability or inclination, some rolled up lead strips, or lead fishing shot, and silicone sealant, would also work.

I fixed my sticky up pegs problem the minute I got it home from the factory after getting my waterproofs stuck on them and nearly dropping the damn thing five yards from the office. Simples, take out the spring and ball bearing so gravity drops them automatically.🔧🔧

Tbh from what I remember from that bikes first owner telling me, most of the vibration stopped after his exhausts centre hanger broke.

I was going to bring this up. We had the same issue after installing an aftermarket exhaust on a customer's bike. It didn't use the center hanger and the vibration went away!

Oh, that makes sense! My centre hanger broke in that period. Had a really good look at exhaust stability/security at the time, decided all was good and left it.

Maybe the fix for vibration through the footpegs should be to modify or remove the centre exhaust hanger.

That is just soooooo 961!🤣

Can’t imagine that that would impact on bar vibration though.

half the 961 I have seen the center hanger is broken or cracked as well

Some interesting machines including Norton's on show @3.05 and on track @5.05.

Thanks Greg.

Papa Smurf has a few interesting Norton VLOGS planned for next year - worth subscribing if ya haven’t already.

He’ll definitely be hanging out for new models next year or he’s gonna run out of subject matter pretty quickly!

Interesting post by Andrew on FB about ESSO potentially starting to put ethanol in previously ethanol free fuels. A subject discussed in a few threads here.

A quick Google search shows that this is the case. Not clear to me whether 5% is enough to start degrading the plastic tank on the 961.

Others will know more; worth UK members looking into. Avoid ESSO/ Mobil? Do other suppliers produce ethanol free anymore? Use ethanol stabiliser? Remove the ethanol:oops:!? Or just don’t worry about it?

Good luck avoiding it, it seems.

Well we have 10% here along with 20% bio diesel. The diesel is worse because it clogs filters and injectors.

I posted this on the Motorvated Ltd FB page the other week. Up until September this year, Esso Supreme was the only high street super unleaded fuel available, which in most parts of the UK was ethanol free, even though it still had to state E5 on the pumps. As such I always recommended that to my customers. Now all high street available super unleaded is up to 5% ethanol content. I've seen a fair few deformed tanks, with or without paint blistering....owners stating that they're only using super unleaded.

Petrol distribution in the UK is a mess, the brand on the petrol station signs do not indicate where the petrol/diesel comes from, only the mix that is ordered. So for Scotland all the tankers come from Grangemouth, the mix is based on the tanker load but the base petrol comes from the same massive Grangemouth feeder tank. I know Esso were the best for non ethanol outside of Scotland, NE England and the SW but even their supplies would have been contaminated from residues in the tankers and basic errors on filling as E5/E10 is the default mix. Esso must have had too many such errors happening and thought best in the end to just go E5/E10.

My 2016 961 tank is shot. Having an aluminium tank made. I used ethanol protector but not from day one..
Also travelling on the continent with a small tank the option of picking petrol stations is not on. E85 is now available if touring abroad 😳

Hello Mak , Is this going to be a TAB II tank ?

That situation seriously sux!

So the only safe set of assumptions are that you cannot avoid running on fuel that includes ethanol and as such, your 961 tank will likely degrade (an indeterminate amount), over an indeterminate period of time! Two realistic options then it seems - routinely use an ethanol fuel stabiliser or fit an aluminium tank.

Good justification should ’er indoors’ complain about the cost of a shiny new tank! Just don’t disclose the lifetime investment in metal polish required to keep it shiny!😎
