Older topic and I can’t remember whether we discussed this further, but did you ever identify which model was best suited to the 961? Multiclip Sport or Tour - if so, which variant?

Has to be the 22.2 mm bar dia of course, but there are multiple options around clamping height and width etc. Seems like it could be quite easy to make a mistake when ordering.

Unfortunately ABM do not list the 961 for a full kit (including brake hoses/ throttle cables etc) - no suprise there.

I’m going to order and will document the process, including fitting, for any other forum members that may be interested. There’s also one of Richard 7’s manual on bar replacement.

Wondering whether you ever got as far as selecting specific bars? Thanks.

There has been a lot for work going on in reference to new 2 stroke designs that eliminate crankcase ports and oil with gas fueling.
I recently saw a video on a design that had valves in the head, but not pop-it valves like a 4 stroke. They were rotary cylindrical valves that controlled the air into the combustion chamber, and the exhaust. The fuel was direct injected into the combustion chamber, like a diesel engine. The demo of the working engine ran on diesel, gas, CNG, and hydrogen. When switched from one fuel to the other, you could perceive a different sound from the video.

Pretty cool stuff. But the trick is to control CO2 emissions. The video didn't include anything on that.

Gonna see if I can find that video and post it.

Learning is a funny thing! Until a few minutes ago I would have told you that CNG meant Clean Natual Gas. This is because when the Washington DC buses started running it they advertised "Clean Natual Gas" and the stink they put in home heating natural gas is omitted from CNG. Oh well, 75 is not too old to learn things!

Yeah, that was mercaptan. It stinks, but makes it easy to detect gas leaks.
I didn't realize that it's not added to CNG (Compressed Natural Gas).

A bit lengthy but well worth a watch. He has a good handle on some of the obvious issues related to bike forums and identifies just how vilified the 961 has become over the years - happy owners are generally silent of course. A positive review to redress the balance a bit.

I’ve owned my bike a little longer than he has but have had similar ownership experiences and use it in exactly the same way, so can definitely relate to a lot that he says.

Know what you’re buying, do the required checks/fixes, remain engaged with machine and enjoy the unique experience of riding it. Oh, and get used to talking about it (literally) every time you stop!

From FB - another Japenese custom. For those with an ‘issue’ with the 961 tail unit and brake light setup. This throws up a few ideas.

Apparently the builder is on his sixth such conversion. Ducati front end. Six speed box. He must be building them to order.

A Street Tracker? Not sure myself but a whole lot of work has gone into this - each to his own👍!

I’d forgotten just how little has changed styling wise from Dreers original design.

Guess some may underestimate just how important Dreers efforts were to Norton’s future. Without the 961……..?
