Err, sorry but no. To me that is just another over-restored CNW bike. I appreciate the workmanship and some details but don't fancy the result - far to shiny and bling-bling for my European taste.

+2 there is a similar Commando nearby that I see on the British club rides and the workmanship and attention to detail is fantastic, but it is waaay overdone

This is the nature of a CUSTOM BIKE, some folks like it and some folks don't.
It's not exactly the end of the world if a CUSTOM BIKE does not make everyone happy, my free advice (and it's WELL WORTH that price!) is to put on your "Big Boy Pants" and move on!

Well, if that bike showed up in my garage with a big ribbon and a Merry Christmas from Santa tag, I certainly wouldn't get rid of it!

I love that color scheme. Makes me want to buy another set of bodywork and get it painted in those colors!

I have noticed a "testier and slightly nasty tone" here lately, things will calm down! (if or when I finish my custom Commando the Purists heads will ASPLODE, that will calm this place down!)

I can see where some of the CNW's bikes come off as a little brassy. A used but not abused patina would only be an improvement in my book. Like some people, I think they will only look better with a little weathering

For those of use who were not even born when their bikes were made.... the CNW ones allow you to get a "New"ish-untarninshed Norton and gives the owner the ability to weather it.

If I only had the cash!

Hummm. Well I have my frame back from powder coat and it is nice. I have ALL the CNW parts and mods ready to assemble in my garage. I guess by the response here that the interest level of this rebuild would be lukewarm. I like the style and reliability. So I'll build it without fanfare and it will be nice when done.

Thanks for the nice feedback....and for those that didnt like it....thanks for looking.

I think that the whole idea about building a Custom Bike is to stir up emotions....and they may not all be positive. The most important thing is that the owner likes the creation. If you get to that point, then you have to be happy about the results. If you, as a builder, get upset about some critisism, then you should do something else for a living. Its kind of like Art work.....you create it like you want to and if you are lucky...someone else will like it to.

As soon as you step out of the box, you will most certainly get different feedback. If the negative ones stopped you from doing what you are doing, then you didnt believe very strongly in it to begin with.

I can tell you that the owner of #089 (bike went to Australia) is thrilled and that is all that matters.

Its been a long road, quite a few bikes, and I feel really good about the machines that leave the shop these days. I am extremely furtunate to be able to work with something that I couldnt be more passionate about.

It's Christmas, that's why. It always brings out the worst in some people and maybe a little jealousy too.
It will calm down after New Years or when riding season returns.
As for the CNW bikes go, it's what Norton should have done all along as far as the mods are concerned but you can't help but love the looks of those bikes.
Nice job Matt and crew.

Edit: I do have to say that a nice well patinaed original bike is nice. I wish I had both.

Yea, but the Australian owner has nothing to be testy about. It's summer and riding weather in the southern hemisphere.
