I really hope that the poster (S) who referred to the "whiners" in this thread did so firmly tongue-in-cheek. Likewise, those who referred to "over-restored" are also missing the point. Matt builds the bike his customers want. Period. He does not appear to be trying to enforce a style, just interprets the customers wishes. I personally do not like Corbin gunfighter seats. So what, my opinion only. I have seen his more "traditional" style builds., lovely. And he is not cosmetic only, if anyone needs reminding. Does worthy durability-enhancing upgrades. More power to him, if you don't like any particular bike on a personal level, put it down to personal taste, and blame it on the guy that is paying for it.

I think what prompted the less than positive comments on the bike was the OP's assertion/presumption that the bike makes us All proud and envious...definitely not the case though it does look like probably all do appreciate the very high level of workmanship. The claims of jealousy are out of line, many here no doubt have the means to buy or build a CNW style Commando and would do so if their tastes ran that way. Opinions on the new 961 Commando vary similarly all over the map but seem to cause much less rancor.

I got bored riding a black commando over the past three decades

Perfectly fine explanation - but AFAIK not all Commandos were born black. My 1970 will either be fireflake bronze (of which I managed to get a pair of NOS side panels) or emerald green. No yaVps, thanks - but I don't have the slightest problem with anybody who likes yaVps.

The Cafe Racer maintained its black frame.

Now that'll come as a surprise for you: The Proddie racer replica I intend to build after the current resto of the 1970 will look like very much like this. Black and orange is a perfect combination for me - but I refuse to comment the other one. I'm European...

Exactly. That and absolutely nothing else.

Thats certainly a sweet machine. Not for everday riding, but would be nice to have. Wish I had the resources to make mine look something like that. My Commando will be fixed up with riding in mind, but certainly not for daily use.
