Mind conditioning.
A leading maker of CNC machine tool controls has used regenerative braking to dump current back onto the common 200VDC bus to be used on other axi. More than 25 years now.

Alternatively, less costly, brand X control dumps all braking current into a resistive bank, (electric stove burner elements!!) throwing all it all away as heat.

Brand X, has placed a green leaf virtue signaling decal on the front, right beside the operator panel, proclaiming "Eco-Friendly" drives.


Guess who has the PERCEPTION by customers of energy efficiency?

Ford Motors Losing Billions on Electric Vehicles​

In the mad dash to pursue all things electric for the sake of climate change, Ford Motors has invested heavily in the production of electric vehicles.

So far, things are not going according to plan.

Ford is losing billions on this in 2023 and it’s only March.
Ford says EV unit losing billions, should be seen as startup

Ford Motor Co.’s electric vehicle business has lost $3 billion before taxes during the past two years and will lose a similar amount this year as the company invests heavily in the new technology.

The figures were released Thursday as Ford rolled out a new way of reporting financial results. The new business structure separates electric vehicles, the profitable internal combustion and commercial vehicle operations into three operating units.

Company officials said the electric vehicle unit, called “Ford Model e,” will be profitable before taxes by late 2026 with an 8% pretax profit margin. But they wouldn’t say exactly when it’s expected to start making money.

Chief Financial Officer John Lawler said Model e should be viewed as a startup company within Ford.


“As everyone knows, EV startups lose money while they invest in capability, develop knowledge, build (sales) volume and gain (market) share,” he said.

Model e, he said, is working on second- and even third-generation electric vehicles. It currently offers three EVs for sale in the U.S.: the Mustang Mach E SUV, the F-150 Lightning pickup and an electric Transit commercial van.
 
The only draw back with EV is I will never own one, but this morning I was sitting on my front patio with my dogs and coming up the hill on the corner from my place I heard this buzzing noise and this kid on his electric scooter doing well over the 60km speed limit he was flying, suicidal and if they get hit by a car it's everyone else fault and with thoughs tiny winny wheels come on, a accident waiting to happen.

Very smart business people to KNOW the financial results 3 years in advance. 💡Oh, wait, they KNOW IT , because the wild corruption has pre-ordained the results of formerly free enterprise. 😡

EVERY AUTO MAKER is paying ZERO TAXES, by virtue of "startup costs" and other "losses"

What all these corporations (that get money from the government, ALL industries) should be forced to do, is to simply present a 3-line report at the end of each year, triple-fact-checked by non-interested reputable accounting firms, with the following simple information:

Funds received from U.S. Taxpayers
-Net losses on projects associated with those funds
=Total taxpayer funds wasted

Oh, yes, don't forget to VOTE OUT every politician that APPROVED of giving them those funds....

Has anyone addressed the cost of installing a charge dock in a typical residence?

It is estimated to be $1500 to $2000, a sum that will mitigate the savings attributed to electric vs fossil fuel use.

Depending on local electric rates (in some locales, the rate depends on time of day), break even may be years in coming.

In some cases the varying rates can work to advantage. My supplier offers an plan option where for a slight increase in daytime rate there is free power from 9.00pm to mid-night. We run clothes and dish washing, and car charging, during the free hours.
 
Is there any signage on ev hookups that tell you if the electric supplied is clean solar or wind generated
Or fossil generated ?
Just so people know if they are saving the world
Or burning fossil fuel like the majority!

We are lucky in NZ that 80% or more of our power comes from hydro and increasingly wind plus solar. An accident of geography/history rather than from clean green intent.
