The USA has very strong copyright laws pertaining to photography which ebay honors
I thought we did also but I'm told that with Ebay UK any photos loaded on their server can be used by anyone. I'll check that but I know my mate uses his own remote pic hosting now to save £'s and stop that. I could have it wrong though!!

Hello Keith. I think you will find the Lansdowne Dampers a sheer Delight.....Duncan Fitchett as fully tested them Simply dial in what ever suit's your riding style...soft for cruising, a little firmer for a bit of scratching! Duncan posted a 94 lap at Goodwood...some going for a 500 one lunger! on the LANSDOWNE Danper kit!!!
Thanks John, I think that should have been a reply to 'Snakehips'!! If I hadn't lost my job end Sept I was planning on ordering a set. Next year maybe.

I've been spending rather large amounts of wad with RGM recently, and they've been spot-on.
Also had great next-day service from Mick Hemmings.
As for E-bay....great for selling stuff!
Also looking forwards to my Lansdowne dampers...due next week ;)

Yep, me too. Idiot didn't even remove enire paragraphs that had nothing to do with his bike for sale.

E-bay did pull the ad. When he re-posted, the 8-paragraph detailed description was down to 3 or 4 poorly written sentences.

What plates are you using? I've just refitted the original bronze ones to mine, but I've heard that the fibre ones are better.
Does this mean I'll have problems with the old plates?
Not yet but the same old stuff keeps going round and round! They are what Ebay want now, companies doing high volume.

The seller listing the items using RGM photos is from Whitehaven, the place where John Paul Jones invaded the UK a few years ago :) , its close to RGM say 10 miles away.

Its odd anyway, his feedback is getting dodgy too with 2 recent negs. He is also not listed as a business seller which if it is RGM they should be.
He has this odd comment, 'Hello, my items are listed else where and could be sold at any time

http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI ... ckAsSeller

Just been on to look at prices of belt drives, this guy has the RGM pics and probably their belt drive at £355 +P+P while RGM have it at £240+vat, he also has their Manx seat at a well inflated price. Using the comment "sold at anytime", would indicate that he is a chancer just buying the stuff from RGM if anybody bids on it.

I have pondered for a while whether to respond, and decided to give my two penny worth!

In my personal opinion Norvil HAS taken over ebay.

A few years ago we Norton enthusiasts could get a bargain or even a fair priced item for our pride and joys, from genuine sellers and like minded enthusiasts. Sadly, in the past few years anything Norton is snapped up at over the market prices. Norvil now have at least 5 pages on ebay, all at overinflated prices, including their tatty used second hand items. Their catalogue is also evidence of these exhorbitant prices.

It is very sad and unfortunate that there must be new Norton owners out there that do not realise they have a choice where to buy from and the world of Norton does not revolve around Norvil.

Les at Norvil has an overinflated opinion of his products, it seems that when a new product that is not Norvil originated appears, such as cylinder heads made in Australia, Les is the first to denounce them in quality and originality, where as his products are promoted as the 'best thing since sliced bread'!
From personal experience as one example, I can say that his fibre glass petrol tanks leak like the preverbial sieve and this was not a one off as the replacement was the same.

To all Norton owners out there, from many years of being a Norton owner, please also try honest and trustworthy dealers such as RGM, Mick Hemmings,Steve Maney and Britbits as a few of the best.

I must point out that Les didn't mention the quality of the heads, just the fact that they are not "genuine Norton Commando" heads. However, his definition of "genuine" seems to be somewhat at odds with the dictionary version. The quality of stuff coming out of Andover Norton as being made to the original drawings and specifications has suffered over recent times. I just fitted a 750 number plate bracket which lasted half an hour before the indicator bracket broke off. I can't be bothered sending it back in it's "genuine" packaging and I've ordered a CNW bracket which won't break.

I would take that as an endorsement.

EBAY...CONNECTING PEOPLE WITH "THINGS"..I HAVE SOLD A FEW LANSDOWNE KITS ON THE BAY...BUT THE POINT IS EBAY IS A WORLD KNOWN SITE. GOOD OR BAD[YES THERE'S ALLWAYS SOME "SILLY" [I ILL USE THE WORD SILLY] PERSON THAT HAS NOT A CLUE TO QUAILITY ENGINE PARTS. LET'S FACE IT THESE PARTS WHERE REMOVED FOR A REASON...DAMAGED! SOME ARE THE "NEVER TO BE ASSEMBLED AGAIN" I AGREE SOME FAIRSPARES ITEMS APPEAR IFFY.BUT LES [JOHN] NEVER TRY'S TO HIDE ANY THING.F THE COMMENTS ON THIS SITE REGARDING HOW MANY COMMANDO'S EXSIST? AND SOME REPLIES STATE 1/2..THEN THERES A LOT OF STUFF KICKING ABOUT,,,AND BOUND TO LAND ON EBAY. THE BAY AS HAD MORE THAN IT'S FAIR SHARE OF FOOL'S...BUT WHEN THERES A PARTY..THERE'S ALLWAYS ONE. LAST POINT ..SINCE L.A.B POSTED "THE LANSDOWNE KIT" THE MEMBERS TO THIS FORUM HAVE JUMPED BY 185! OVER 10% IN SIX WEEKS.. SAME PEROID LAST YEAR..47!! AS THIS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FACT I SELL THE KIT ON EBAY....WITH THE ACCESSNORTON LINK ATTACHED :?: IN ONE DAY I GET 50 PAGE VISIT'S WITH ONLY A CLICK AWAY FROM THE FORUM ....COULD BE A LITTLE GOOD COMING FROM EBAY :D .MORE THE MERRY.. ANY COMMENTS :?:

Further to my previous post re Mr Emery's little effort in Classic Bike. I re-read his statement and it's quite interesting. He says that my heads are not "genuine Commando heads". Note, he didn't say "genuine NORTON Commando heads", just "genuine Commando heads". he says this because he owns no rights to the Norton name. He does own the Commando name in the UK. Which makes me wonder what the arrangement is with Mr Garner regarding the use of the Commando name on the new bikes. I presume they've come to some arrangement.

Jim C, You are a cruel man. Cruel, but fair.

It is very sad that I've dug this thread out, but will all beware as you could loose serious cash for parts you could get new stright from another dealer. Just look at EBAY item number 350305892496, and check what Andover Norton will sell you one for new. I don't know what Les is trying to do by this, generally this kind of pricing will eventually lead to loss of business and reputation. Yes, I have e-mailed Andover Norton as they supply this dealer and have it listed in the distributors part of their website and expressed my disgust, and hopefully they'll also take the view that the this price for a second ahnd part is taken the p*** out of themselves and Norton owners.
I'm also with Hursty on this one having had parts of dubious quality and fitting in the past and therfore will not use them or reccomend them.

Better in my pocket than his, but I've seen worse in the past. Just look at the MKIII lucas recitfiers he sells and no your eyes will not be deceiving you - now that is what I would call serious cash.

I believe the eBay trader 'norvilmotorcycle' is actually his daughter Kate? I don't know to what the extent the two businesses are actually connected, but in any case, as far as I am aware, second hand parts can be advertised for whatever price the seller wishes to put on them, as nobody is forced to buy them?

I'm not sure they will be all that interested, especially as that particular part is probably a Lockheed item, so there's no guarantee it would have originated from Andover Norton stock-even when it was new?

Please don't think I'm condoning what 'norvilmotorcycle' (or The Norvil Motorcycle Co.?) are doing, but I'm sure they have the right to list their goods at whatever price they choose, just as everyone else has the right not to buy them!

Appears to be a 9.05 GBP difference Madnorton.

For those of us who live in the EC, there's 17.5% VAT to be added to the Andover Norton item cost, so the difference in price would be £7.13 GBP.

I'm going to +1 L.A.B. here. So long as the price is listed and there are no hidden costs and switch-and-bait tactics and unsavory surprises then all is fair. Of course this assumes parts are advertised in honest manner.

Seller can charge whatever he or she wishes (seller pays the selling fees, not buyer).

Yep, I agree also that they can sell stuff for what they like, and I'm pretty sure they know they will sell it at that price or why would they bother listing it. Some Norton owners must be buying them like the other parts advertised. There may be more sides to this in the future, if parts are achieving a high selling price then maybe then maybe someone would be interested in getting new parts made to supply the demand, like some already have done - a good thing, the other would be that part prices across all the dealers go up - a bad thing. The very worst are those that just buy up stuff to keep and hope to make a buck in the future, which is what I should have done when BSA Regal had control and I had good discount.

A lot of their overpriced eBay junk (sorry, valuable used parts) hangs around unsold for months, and if you check their feedback to see what items have been sold then I think you will see that perhaps not everyone is as gullible as you might think?

But that is what certain people have been doing for years, and in some ways it is a good thing that vital new spares have been remanufactured.

As Commando owners, I think we have to consider ourselves reasonably fortunate that a large amount of genuine spare parts are still available off the shelf, however, I think some other makes of British bike are not always as well catered for, also pattern parts are often made to inferior quality standards in order to undercut the price of the genuine item.

Just been flicking through ebay to see what's available for my Commando and came across this.........
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TACHO-DRIVE-HOUSI ... 335f8da7a5
Tacho housing £50 or best offer......... RGM have got the same part at £15 +vat, and Andover have got it for £14+. Not only that but Norvil have actually got it in their own shop for £20+vat !!!!!!!!!I realise a business has to make money but that's pushing it .
Do they rely on people just buying from ebay and not checking dealers prices?
I'm sorry, and I know it's good that we can get parts and people have to make a living, but that's really trying to fleece someone!!
